I thought it was going to be an overrated Google maps rating tourist trap like the last place I went to, but the food and the service was quite nice. The portion sizes seem suited for Western tourists as to places with smaller sizes, the menus have clear English translations. The ambience is clean, spacious, pleasant. It is right around the corner from the Dejima tourist attraction.
You push the translucent button to order and for service - don't wait for them to come around. My travel partner and I had the omerice with side of fried chicken and the fried horse mackerel. The egg on the omerice was average-thickness, not super loaded and creamy like some places, but it comes with a moat of creamy mushroom sauce with shimeji mushroom instead.
We really wanted dessert because they had some unique local tastes such as sweet potato and fluffy cheese/pancakes, but since we have small appetites, we were very full by the end. Hot cocoa was not overly sweet and the vanilla chino was very nice.
Overall, good value for convenience, decent food,...
Read moreI had an amazing experience at Branch OTTO Dejima on 2023/12/27, I'd comfortably say one of the best restaurants around Dejima/Shinchi Chinatown Nagasaki. The food was exquisite, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was elegant. I ordered the fried chicken with onion sauce served with vegetable salad and it was very tasty and my friend ordered the basil pasta. The drink bar has very good non-alcoholic mocktails which I enjoyed as I don't take alcohol. It was a fast meal so for desert only ice cream was ordered. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, and they made me feel very welcome. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, with a modern and minimalist style. I highly recommend Branch OTTO Dejima to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Also, of course,...
Read moreAt a glance, it looks like a tourist trap next to Dejima, but in all honesty it was genuinely a nice experience. We didn't try the food, but it looked lovely. The drinks we ordered were great and craft beers were also available that looked tasty. It's in a pretty quiet spot, too, and offers a pretty welcome break from all the walking. Definitely worth it for a brief stop and a break from all the...
