After Nagoya Castle we were hungry. A quick check on Google for nearby lunch places found a cute little restaurant called Taniya. It specialises in soba, which one of the famous foods of the Nagoya region. Our soba was more al dente than all other soba that I’ve had including others in Japan, and it was quite fragrant. The dipping sauce was very mild, much milder than what we are used to in Singapore. The Google favourite was the mushroom tempura which was delicious. The waitress recommended the seasonal special of oyster tempura and that was so gooooood. Huge oysters with bursts of flavour and had a rather meaty texture in fact. There’s no English menu, but I picked my meal from the photos in other reviews.
I had the soba with tempura set, the soba was nice and bouncy, and dipping it in the shoyu sauce was super tasty. The tempura was crispy, not oily, and the shrimp was firm and delicious.
Staff were really friendly and welcoming.
