Be forewarned, this place is EXTREMELY overpriced. There's a ¥550 seating fee. Plus they add tax at the end. If there's open mic karaoke, they add a karaoke fee of ¥2000 to your tab also, which they didn't even tell our Japanese friend we had with us who would've understood perfectly. It totalled over ¥6000 for just 3 drinks over about 45 min in the bar.
Service was ok at best. The only way we could get the staff to come over after initially dropping off menus was our friend yelling "oniiii-san" to the bar. Drinks were mediocre. There were 3 servers/workers and I had to ask for water twice before they told me "oh, we'll bring them to the table", but the reason I asked was that we all wanted water while waiting since it was taking them forever to make drinks. 2 workers were making the 3 drinks while the third worker just watched them.
The penguins are adorable. However, their enclosure is very small. And the penguins just stand near the glass sadly with their beaks up against it waiting for the next feeding. Even in their tiny pool, they swim straight forward in the direction of the bar with the end of their beak on the glass since there isn't enough room to swim anywhere else. Feeding time was cute and they let you feed a fish to the penguins through a portion of the glass that opens into the bar. The three fight each other for a chance to get a fish from each customer who comes up...
Read moreVisited the penguin cafe on a Saturday evening with a reservation at 1900. There was no designated parking but public parking lots are available around the area so parking was not a big issue.
Visited the cafe with my kid and he was extremely thrilled to be able to sit next to the penguin habitat seeing the penguins walking and swimming up close. You also get a chance to feed the penguin. Definitely recommended if you or your offspring's are penguin fanatics.
The staff there have reasonably good English and the communication was smooth all along.
The food there was a hit and a miss for us. We ordered a dorito set, a pizza, a pasta, and a roasted chicken. The pizza was absolutely phenomenal, obviously freshly made, seasoning was perfected and the pizza dough was very crunchy. The seasoning for the pasta was on the heavy and salty side, but the texture of the pasta was spot on, and the moisture level of pasta was controlled amazingly that it can hold the pasta sauce really well. Chicken was roasted perfectly, the meat was hot and juicy, and the skin was roasted with rich seasoning and was really crunchy.
I would highly recommend a visit to penguin cafe for the good food and service and most importantly for interacting...
Read moreThere are three live penguins at this place but once you walk in you can see that they should not be locked in their small area. Feeding times are pretty cool but once the staff open the doors to feed the birds the smell of their area quickly fills the small second hand smoke bar area. The smell of smoke and spoiled fish is not a smell that I wanted as i waited for my food. The waiter was nice but the food came out one at a time and the last meal we bought "jerk chicken" took an entire hour for them to bring to us. It was then that I realized this place was a one and done. However it did not end there. After we ate the mediocre food we asked for the check and the waited did all the math in his head and wrote our final total on a small yellow sticky note. I asked him if we can have an actual reciepe with each item ordered on it and he showed me a written table list which I could not read very well. All in all my wife and i spent 70 dollars on a salad, bread pizza, and fatty baked bbq chicken. Be aware of the cover charge of 500 yen a person and the 8% tax on each thing you order. This place is OVERPRICED and...
