We came to Takara Diner in July 2025. It’s an amazing retro-style diner close to the beach with huge portions but affordable prices. Even at dinner time, it is possible to get a lunch set if supplies last. From the reviews I had wanted to try the tuna bowl, but it was either unavailable or sold out for the day. I had lunch set A. It was a challenge worthy of my large appetite with a bowl of Okinawan soba, katsu with rice and cabbage, spare ribs, pickles, fried egg, and shrimp tempura. The friendly server spoke both Japanese and English.

Warning: like other reviews say, please try to decide on your meal (with back-up options) before coming. You must order from the vending machine before you sit down. The vending machine has only Japanese text, no pictures, no plastic food displays. We can read and speak Japanese no problem but the sheer amount of options was overwhelming. But as far as I can tell, it’s all delicious, you can’t...

If you’re looking for an authentic local dining experience, this is the place to go. As soon as you walk in, you’re warmly greeted by the lovely grandma who clearly feels like the heart and soul of the restaurant. Right at the entrance, there’s a vending machine where you purchase your meal ticket—very typical of casual Japanese eateries.

Although I’m Japanese myself, it still took my non-Japanese spouse and me a couple of minutes to decide, since there were so many delicious-sounding options to choose from. An English-speaking staff member noticed and kindly came over to assist us, assuming we couldn’t read Japanese.

I ordered the tuna bowl (maguro-don) and noodle soup combo. The portion was absolutely massive, and the taste was just like a comforting homemade meal—simple, fresh, and satisfying.

Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a true local...

The food is ginormous! And good thing i noticed is many locals go there. So I figure the place is the best in town. From Okinawan noodles to pork teriyaki pork katu donburi etc. Portion is very big. Very satisfying. I even felt it was too enough for me. But if you ask for doggy bag, they are willing to give it to you to take with. I had Soki soba noodle with Maguro tsuna donburi. Both meal was for a full size to me but mini size....
