Tuna fireside theater Uoshimaya — Restaurant in Naha

Came across this on a whim since everywhere else was fully booked and SO GLAD we came! The owner was so sweet and accomodated us despite our lack of Japanese. The digital menu had pictures and English names, and every dish was cooked with such care. The food was great and the prices were so reasonable. We wanted to order two of everything.

If you get the sashimi boat, they ring a bell and chant something! They also do a fish bidding war to bid on a giant fish which they'll cook for the highest bidder.

Know this is a traditional izakaya so there's a minimum 1 drink per person and sitting fee which includes two small appetizers. Felt super authentic and local as every other table was japanese businessmen and young folks.

Our favorite dishes were: seafood kimchi, pacific bluefin tuna sashimi platter, bitter melon and pork, deep-fried tofu, and flowing sea grapes (super unique presentation).

I had a great experience dining at this Robata spot. The sashimi stood out immediately — incredibly fresh and clean tasting, a clear reflection of the high-quality ingredients used. A couple of the other dishes leaned on the saltier side, but not enough to take away from the overall meal.

Bad experience as one person diner.

When I ordered, signature dishes are either sold out or only the big portion is available.

I ordered the sashimi set (jpy1480 for two persons) for one person. The staff showed me the price on menu is jpy740, then it ended up charging jpy1200 when I paid. The explanation was they served me 2/3 portion of the 2 people set (which is not on the menu.)

What a scam!

Sashimi is good, other hot dishes are normal. Wait time is too long. If you sit at the bar your clothes will get an oily smell. With similar price there are many choices...
