Hotel Excel Okayama is a moderate-priced hotel in Okayama within walking distance of Okayama Castle. It is also about a 20 minute walk away from Okayama Station. You can just walk straight down the main road to the station. However, there is a tram station (Shiroshita Station) that is just across the street from the hotel that travels to Okayama Station. At this station, you will need to walk through the underground square to reach the hotel.
The external facade of the hotel looks a bit old, but so do many of the buildings in the area. I think it is just indicative of the neighborhood color scheme. The rooms here are standard for a Japanese room in which they are small, but priced economically. I did have a great view of the tram stop though which made up for this.
As for hotel amenities, there is a beer vending machine in the lobby as well as two restaurants in the hotel. The one downstairs serves Chinese food, while the one on the ground level serves local and Japanese Western food. I tried out the hotel breakfast one day at the Japanese Western restaurant and really enjoyed the local dishes that they had available. If you are looking for a convenient hotel near Okayama Castle, this is a good option based on its location next to the tram and Omotecho Shopping Street...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at Hotel Excel for 6 nights in May 2016. We would definitely recommend this Hotel to anyone - and please put Okayama on your itinerary. We were given a ' garden view room' which meant that we had a view of the town's botanical gardens and we also had a view of the Castle - which was lit up at night and looked spectacular. The Hotel is only a couple of minutes by tram from the train station - or you could walk the 10 minutes and window shop. The room is serviced daily - although we didn't get this done every day so they left clean towels, etc at the door for us. We borrowed the free hire bikes one day and took of for a ride around the city - a great way to see everything. The room was spacious enough for the two of us and after walking and sight seeing all day, the in-room massage chair was very well received. The laundry was convenient. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant but it looked good, so give it a go. The staff were very friendly and willing to help with any questions we had. Will definitely stay here again on our next...
Read moreI recently stayed at the hotel excel with my family for 3 nights. The hotel is about 1.2 kms from the main entrance of the Okayama JR station along the main road. As it was raining on arrival we caught the streetcar for 100 yen 3 stops where you get off as the streetcar turns to the right. From there the hotel is 50m away and easy to see. Check i as in most of Japan is after 2pm so we left the bags with the reception staff who kindly put them in a safe place.|Breakfast was included with our deal which is mainly japanes style with some bread and cereal options which was quite good.|The rooms are a reasonable size and the beds are a little hard.|Not a bad hotel to stay just a 15 minute walk or short streetcar to and from the JR station.|Our window was overlooking Okayama castle and the surrounding gardens which was a bonus.|Not much around the hotel, there are a few cafes and restaurants but we did not use as we preferred to get our supplies from the Aeon shopping mall which is close to...
