Dogree — Restaurant in Osaka

If I could leave zero stars I would do so without hesitation. I went to this dog cafe to have a nice time and learn more about training and taking care of rescue dogs as someone who loves animals.

The animals here do seem taken care of (in regard to grooming and being well-fed); and the staff does seem friendly.

The problem I had with this place was the owner. He had so much pride in being a so-called “dog trainer” and talked about his qualifications as if it validates his poor treatment to the dogs. He repeatedly kicked, pulled, and roughly handled the dogs as if it was completely normal to do so.

I understand I may not have much understanding or experience handling / training dogs, but his way of handling and or disciplining these animals is borderline, if not all, animal cruelty / abuse.

As for “disciplining” the dogs, I know first hand that there is no need for physical punishment. In some instances, the dogs were behaving as any dog would. It is normal for dogs to get excited, especially during snack time. To kick a dog and forcefully step on their feet for jumping excitedly when there are snacks is not okay, and there is no excuse in the world to do so. I would not speak up if it is a light tap or subtle physical discipline, but this is far from it.

These dogs are also mostly rescues and do not come from good/nice families (as the owner himself stated); they need extra care and love as they are overall pretty frightful of humans to begin with. What needs to be done is establishing trust and love with these animals, not make them fear humans even more.

As someone who owns multiple dogs and has fostered / cared for animals for years now, this behavior is not forgivable in the slightest.

Even when confronting the owner and asking about his behavior, he only made excuses and showed no remorse. My genuine concern for these animals were met with gaslighting and no regret or guilt.

This dog café was a truly lovely experience. All the dogs were happy, active, and incredibly well-behaved. It was clear they were well cared for and not overly food-motivated, which made for a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful, contributing to the overall positive experience.

This is a heavan for dogs and cats, as well as animal lovers like us. The dogs and cats here are rescued and provided with a lovely home. The staff doesnt speak much english but they were very kind and tried their best to accommodate us. We were on a weekday which we could stay for however long we wanted.
