This was my first time here. It's a 5-minute walk from Tanimachi Rokuchome Subway Station along Karahori Shopping Street. There you will find the famous spice curry restaurant “Old Yamu House”. The restaurant is a renovated old-style house. I entered the restaurant just after it opened and went to the second floor. At spice curry restaurants, I usually order “Aigake” which means a mixture of a couple of curry sauces. On this day I ordered all three curry sauces. Three types: eggplant and pumpkin, mackerel and coconut, and spinach. The names of the curries were written on the menu, but they were written in beautiful handwriting in Japanese. The fun thing about spice curry is that after I put the curry in my mouth, the delicious and deep flavors of the various spices and ingredients spread in my mouth, and when a delicious taste that you never expected spreads, I can't help but smile. This restaurant is also praised as a famous restaurant by everyone, and the curry was as great as I expected. I want...
Read moreLove this place. Located a short distance away from the usual touristy places, you can stop here while travelling from osaka namba station to Osaka castle.
Learned about this place from the YouTube channel internationallyme and decided to pop in to see. Our first foray ended in disaster as it was not operating that day and we had to come back again so do note their operating hours (not full day) before you drop by. Seating is limited in the 2 storey premise. There was already a queue outside even before it opened for lunch. There appears to be quite a lot of locals dining here so it is probably a testament to the quality.
The curry is different from the usual ones. It is extremely flavourful, aromatic and does not give you the jelak (sick of eating) feeling that you sometimes get from overly rich food. You actually get a 2 choices of curry as you can see from the photo. Pricing is a steal at...
Read moreI’ve never had such flavoursome curry before and I loved all three types we had ordered. It’s just comfort food at its best. The spices may be overwhelming for some but it’s not too hot to eat, and the accompanying yogurt on the side helps to mellow and balance out the intensity. We also ordered some nice chai drinks to go with the curry. The portions were perfect: generous but not overkill.
The staff were very friendly and kind as well. They took the time to explain the menu slowly as my Japanese is limited. When I asked if the famed Taro-chan was up and about, they kindly called upstairs, and down came the senior cat, who sat with us for our whole dinner. I hope we didn’t annoy everyone with taking too...
