SLOTH COFFEE ROASTERS 中津店 — Restaurant in Osaka

I had SLOTH saved in my list of coffee shops to visit for my first time in Osaka and, let me say, it didn’t disappoint at all. I was so looking forward to coming here that I started to overhype it in my head and it still exceeded expectations.

First and foremost, the coffee is excellent. I ordered two iced pour overs, one for me and one for my girlfriend, and they were delicious. Both cups were smooth and had great detail. I also found out that the owner placed second in Ambessa Japan 2024, which was cool for me since I’m an apprentice roaster. Side note: I think he and a couple of other champions were cupping when we went. Very cool to see.

Second, the staff was kind and patient with our large group (7 people), especially Park, the owner. He came and talked with us and even answered my questions about coffee and his coffee experience. He didn’t allow any language barriers to get in the way of talking with us. Coffee aside, Park seems like a good man.

Third, the space is beautiful. The concrete industrial setting is warmed by the darker wood furniture. It’s a pleasant place to stay and enjoy a slow morning.

I visited sixteen shops, across four cities, on my first trip to Japan and this was my overall favorite....

Korean-style coffee shop with Japanese ethos. Their vanilla bean latte was of the best lattes I’ve had in Japan. The medium roast espresso was full-bodied and chocolaty, not bitter or burnt-tasting. They also offer some excellent baked goods here. Very kind and knowledgeable staff. Dimly-lit and cozy interiors. There’s a time limit (around 2 hours, iirc) for the free WiFi here, after which it will disconnect, so be prepared if you’re working or studying here. I’ll be back here whenever I’m in...

Thank you so much to the male staff member who worked at 2 PM on August 10th! Not only was his attitude excellent, but as soon as he realized I couldn't speak Japanese, he immediately switched to English to explain what a sloth latte is. He was really considerate! He also served our food with great care and even helped us move tables together so that we had a more comfortable space!...
