I had two recent stays at the Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda in June 2025, one for one night and one for two nights. The hotel is fairly new, about nine months into opening, and it is a spectacular looking design hotel with hip design touches and a bright airy feel in the new Umekita area. ||Its access is a bit convoluted - you walk in from the main street and have to negotiate quite a few steps up a half level (or find your way to the one single elevator that goes up the half level) in order to reach the elevators that take you up to the hotel lobby level. Alternatively, you can walk in from the Grand Front Osaka North building by an above street level pedestrian bridge and then go down the escalators to the level where the elevators to the hotel lobby are located. There is no street level front entrance with a driveway for taxis and bellmen to help you with your luggage so if you are travelling with a lot of luggage, it is going to take a bit of effort on your part. Limousine buses from Kansai and Itami airports do not stop at the Canopy so depending on the route you take, you will end up at either the Hotel New Hankyu or the Hotel Hankyu Respire with a 5 or 10 minute walk to the hotel. ||Once you overcome the arrival logistics, you will arrive at the hotel lobby level and be immediately surprised by an amusing beautiful large wood seesaw when the elevator doors open, your first of many Instagram worthy sights in the hotel. The hotel has two sides facing mostly other buildings, one side facing out to the river with still fairly open space for now, and one side facing Umekita Park with great open spaces and greenery so if you have a choice of rooms, there is one obvious side to pick. From lobby level, you switch to a different set of elevators to reach the rooms. ||Front desk reception staff were young and very friendly, but their relatively lack of experience is quite obvious. I asked about the well publicized issues around trying to visit Expo 2025 in Osaka and staff had no knowledge or experience from other guests to share. When issues with guests arise, the staff seem relatively timid and confused in handling issues so management could definitely offer more training and guidance. ||Decor in the public areas and the rooms, staff uniforms and color scheme throughout the hotel all coordinate to give a young and happy vibe. Clientele was very mixed with all nationalities and ages. ||On both stays, I was given a very generous upgrade based on my Hilton Diamond status to a King Canopy Corner Suite, a large room with about 63 sq metres of space, a narrow and long sitting area, a huge bathroom with a large shower and tub room and double sinks and a bedroom with a spectacular corner view. The room was very comfortable and well designed except for the platform surround the bed. It stuck out around a foot from both sides of the bed, was made of wood and was right at bed mattress level and several inches off floor level. It was awkward getting up from bed and finding your feet on this platform instead of the floor and I cannot count the number of times I hit my shins against the edge of the platform as I approached the bed forgetting there was this platform in the way. My first stay was in a room facing out towards the river with a good view except for a tall building under construction across the street, and my second stay was in a room facing Umekita Park with a spectacular view and the corner location and floor to ceiling glass certainly made the most of the view. ||The hotel has a gym one floor above lobby level. The space is large and overlooks the great view of Umekita Park, and there was both cardio and weight training equipment, but not a lot of it so if there are other guests in the gym, you may have to wait to use the equipment you want to use. Next to the gym is a large co-ed changing room with lockers and separate showers for men and women. Everything looked gleaming new and well maintained. ||I had complimentary breakfast as a Hilton Diamond and thought the breakfast buffet selection was very good for the size of the hotel. In addition to the buffet, there was a small a la carte menu of items of omelet, banana pancake and Osaka style braised beef udon and two daily specials, one sweet and one savory such as matcha azuki croissant and tamago sandwich, which staff will bring around and offer to guests at 8, 9 and 10 am.||Because the Canopy does not have an Executive Lounge, Diamond and Gold members are instead offered complimentary Golden Hour of daily special cocktail or mocktail, white, red or sparkling wine or soft drink, and a choice between two desserts of Zabuton Mont Blanc or Cheesecake Paris. Both cakes are spectacular to look at, almost too beautiful to eat, but also delicious and intricate inside with layers of different flavours. I tried the mocktails and they were interesting too with flavours like jasmine rice.||The location of the hotel in the Grand Green Osaka building connected by pedestrian walkways to Grand Front Osaka North and South meant that there was many shops, restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance without having to go outside. Right at the entrance elevator level to the hotel, there is a new dining concept space where you can sit down and order from a number of different food and beverage vendors located in the building and have the items brought to your seat. I tried the pasta from the pasta vendor and it was both delicious and good value in price. ||All in all, I enjoyed my stays at the Canopy very much. The space is beautiful, the hotel is new, the staff is enthusiastic. Pricing was a bit high when compared to the Hilton Osaka but I expect that may settle down a bit as the hotel looses its new hotel lustre. The Canopy adds to the Hilton chain's impressive segmented offerings at Umeda with the classic business and luxury focused Hilton Osaka, the top end new Waldorf Astoria and the hip and trendy Canopy all encircling...
Read moreIt is brand new establishment, that opened only a month ago. So, like so many other hotels in the beginning, I expected some mishaps, but that was bot the case.
Location It is not too near from the closest subway station, nor the Umeda station. The first time I visited this hotel, I myself had some difficulty finding the way, but luckily enough I found the easy way into the hotel - which happens to be the most efficient, if and when coming in to Osaka by train. (Via Grand font Osaka - south building - north building - green grand font in that order, you want to be on the 2nd floor and cross the bridges that interconnect each buildings) As mentioned by many, the location was not as close as I thought, but the Grand front Osaka /kiteume area has so much to offer and still a lot of potential for more.
I would say the only downside is that, the CVS on the 2nd floor closes early, and after that you need to walk quite a bit to get to the 'cobini'
Rooms I mean, its a new hotel, and everything is spot on. The amenities are thoughtful, the coffee and tea station is well organized, the TV has functions for you to stream netflix, the view (gosh the view) is breathtaking especially if you stay in the corner suite. You can get ice from a very efficient ice machine that is located right next to the elevators.
Facility I used the gym twice. It was a simple gym with two treadmills and some other machines and some weights. But you don't come here to exercise, meaning it was plenty.
Restaurants they have, on the 11th floor serves breakfast, and free alcoholic/nonalcoholic beverages for the loyal tiers. It would've been better with a lounge, but it's a canopy. Different from a grand or a millenium Hilton. I had breakfast and room service, both of which were very satisfying, and moderately priced. Of the 2 times I stayed in the hotel, I had various kinds of food brought up to the room, of all which I enjoyed. The only downside would be the fact that cleaning up - taking the dishes out takes a long time for them.
The staff They are very kind and very helpful and in so many ways, some are more helpful than others, but I don't want to name names. The lobby(?) is situated on the 11th floor right in front of the elevators to the room. The fact that they said hello every single time I was going to/fro the room was a little embarrassing and awkward. But you can't dismiss kindness and hospitality, and that's what they were expressing. So mo complaints. Also they have a small souvenier shop(?) where you check in, so you can look around and buy some stuff, for yourself to use, or for a present for the loved ones
All in all I would definitely come here again and again. The location is a little difficult(?) to find, but once you've been here, it doesn't seem to be a problem at all....
Read moreI booked a King Canopy room as a Hilton Diamond member. The day before check in I was upgraded to a corner suite! One of the best upgrades I’ve received!! ||The room itself was amazing. Clean, sharp, modern, and spacious. The living room and bedroom areas were stylish and I really enjoyed the stay. I really liked the floor to ceiling windows. From the top floor of the south side of the building I could clearly see Osaka Station, the future Waldorf Astoria Osaka, and the Hilton Osaka in the distance. ||The hotel itself is located in Grand Green Osaka with dedicated elevators on the ground floor to access the lobby. The hotel has a modern, boutique feeling compared to the rest of the Hilton portfolio in Osaka. There is a bridge to easily access the Grand Front Osaka and Osaka Station is a quick walk across the street. There are many interesting restaurants in the building and surrounding area. ||As the hotel does not feature an executive lounge, diamond members may enjoy “golden hour” at the hotel bar, Jaja. This consists of 2 complimentary drinks, a very small snack, and half off further drinks. I believe it was 4-6 pm. ||The hotel breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had! There’s a buffet as well as an included menu item, something I usually only see at the Conrad. As expected of Hilton, both Japanese and Western options were offered. I decided to try the udon which was very good. Staff were friendly, attentive, and were going around the floor offering special dishes to guests.||I really enjoyed my stay and I hope that I can stay again someday. |It raises the question of this hotel or the Hilton Osaka? The Hilton has a more spacious lobby, an executive lounge with delicious food everyday, and is located right on top of the subway. However the rooms are a bit older and the views are just so-so. The Canopy Umeda has brand-new, clean, modern rooms with great views and a more energetic feel. That said, there is no executive lounge and the train station requires a short walk. Staff I’ve encountered at both were friendly and helpful. It’s a hard question and I don’t think you’ll be...
