The Landmark Umeda is well-located, not far from Osaka station, for shopping and food. The Grand Front Osaka, with its many stores, is a two minute walk from the hotel. Also Yodobashi, an electronics store with other shops on the upper floors, is a two minute walk from the hotel. ||||I had a single room which was tiny but the room was clean and comfortable. It was fine for sleeping and bathing but not a room in which one would like to spend some time. With Osaka station so close, it was easy to catch a train to Kyoto. ||||The front office, except for one gentleman, didn't speak much English. It's fine for the usual business hotel but not the typical services one would get from a concierge at a better hotel. Again, for me this was fine since I wasn't planning to do much in Osaka while waiting for my daughter to join me for the trip to Kyoto.||||I was touched by a staff member at the front desk. Coming back to the hotel with my shopping bags, I could not find a loaf of bread I had purchased. I asked at the front desk if I had perhaps dropped it in the lobby. One of the hotel employees came up to my room to investigate the disappearance of the loaf of bread. I had told her I had dropped it before I came to my room and she went back to the reception desk. She knocked on my door a few minutes later with a 500 yen coin (about $5) to replace the lost bread. It was so thoughtful. I didn't take the coin and eventually found the bread in one of the shopping bags.||||The highlight of my trip to Osaka was visiting the Panasonic center in Grand Front Osaka just a few minutes walk from the Landmark Umeda. It was amazing. They had two apartments set up with the latest technology. It was fascinating. One unit was the latest tech in a family home. The second unit was designed for folks getting older like me. The use of limited space, the ease of using various technologies relevant to everyday living, the imaginative approach to home design was exciting. I went back the next day to see it again. If you visit this Panasonic center, try the massage chair. It was beyond beyond. I would move to Japan just to have a chair like this. ||||This is a business hotel, just the basics, a clean bedroom and bathroom. My single was around $60 per night. Starbucks is in Grand Front Osaka. Recommend the...
Read moreCity centre location but affordable and surprisingly comfortable. This budget hotel is close to Osaka station, just behind the Yodobashi Camera building. It is a no frills affair and first impressions were that it is maybe too basic, but I was on business and although I had to work from the room on occasion, I found it to be easy to live in. Rooms are big enough for 1 person and luggage and the large single was very comfortable for lounging around on and I slept well in it also. Decoration is virtually non existant and concrete walls surround you in the room and the hallway, but you sleep with your eyes closed, so what's the problem. The vending machine provides hot coffee in a can and was inexpensive and acceptable. There's a shop just round the corner for the breakfast things and a fridge in the room. I have to say the staff were also very pleasant and helpful. Air con and heating were easy to control and I never felt uncomfortable throughout the 2 weeks of fragmented stays here. The rooms were always well cleaned during the day and I never felt there was anything to be concerned about. Availability was limited which meant I changed hotel often during this trip, however this place never disappointed me. I had a Japanese colleague who dealt with the bookijgs for me but I don't think it would be difficult to arrange. I recommend you always search on the web for any hotel, in japan as the desk rates on arrival can take your breath away. This place also, has twomrates depending on how you want to book. As a business booking, they offered redeemable vouchers for each nights stay. I suggest if you do not want these you check the non business rate, but vouchers are easily exchanged at ticket shops scattered amongst the underground shopping areas below the train station and you may find it still makes sense to simply opt for these. Please note, there is no breakfast option here, but as stated shop is very close for supplies. Plenty of places tomgrab food around here anyway and much cheaper than the more expensive hotels breakfast charges to boot. I would use this place anytime with...
Read moreI picked the hotel because it is so close to the station, and because it offered a budget price. I showed up at 10am, and the extremely friendly reception ladies made sure I got the first room that had been cleaned. The room was small, but clean and with an excellent WiFi connection. I spent most of the day in the Great Front Osaka, and was glad that I only had a 3 minute walk to the train station the next morning to catch the train to Kanzai Airport. The location of the hotel is hard to beat if you use it for a stop-over and if you have only one night in Osaka. I would not take my family here because it is a bare bone hotel, but I would check in here again if I was on another...
