We had a mixed experience.
Although we are foreigners, my previous 3 times at Sushi Gin for so many years was so lovely that I brought friends. This time was different.
We were welcomed by a kind host. It quickly went down hill after that. It is normal for people to shout orders and I tried to also for some things as well. Although we tried to be as polite as possible, the head chef looked at me with angry eyes when I tried to get his attention and told me to please wait a moment when I had a question about what the name of a certain fish was.
Later on, I tried to order again and waited for him to look at me. Once we met eyes, he muttered something, clicked his mouth and told the hostess to get my order.
When my husband said “gochisousamadeshita”, he waved his hand at us as if to tell us to get out. We felt so unwelcomed by that one chef. I have never seen this chef in the four times I came. The previous chefs were all Korean and Chinese practicing and mastering sushi in Japan. I talked to them and they were all kind. They understood what it was to be a foreigner in a different country.
When the chef treats the customer badly, the food becomes not delicious. I regret spending my time in such a place that was so unkind to a well-meaning guest.
Before, the wait was only 20 minutes and there was no timer for eating (40 min. max for dine-in). During that time, all the chefs were kind and welcoming. Now, they are so popular and busy that the hospitality of the restaurant is missed. It seems that they have become so popular that it doesn’t matter that people have traveled across the world just to experience that kindness again. While the fish is good quality, the taste is not good when the customer does not feel welcome. It does not digest well.
I don’t think I’ve ever been waved away in such a manner. I don’t know what I did other than having poor Japanese language ability. I tried to be courteous… I feel so sad that a perfectly delicious meal has gone to waste. Pity. I came across the ocean to witness their kindness once again. They have become...
Read moreSushi Gin is a true hidden gem that has been delighting sushi lovers for over a decade. Although it's small, with seating for just 12 - 15 people, this adds to the intimate and exclusive feel of the experience. The restaurant is cozy and impeccably clean, creating the perfect environment to enjoy some of the best sushi you’ll ever taste. Despite the space being limited and the strict 40minute dining time, the sushi is served so promptly and perfectly that you can easily savor every bite within 30 minutes. The salmon and tuna are absolute standouts as well as their eels rich in freshness, tender and bursting with authentic Japanese flavors. It's also extremely soft. The chefs are incredibly skilled and their kindness along with the friendly atmosphere makes the wait of 1.5 to 2 hours on busy days totally worth it. Plus, the owner’s fluency in Korean adds a special touch making everyone feel right at home if you're Korean tourist like mysf. If you have the patience to wait, you'll be rewarded with an unforgettable sushi experience. Five stars...
Read moreFresh, delicious, reasonable price, chef's got the warmth about him. My very best menu was 'summer uni', I still remember that deep scent mixed with the texture of rice. ————-above is my review back in 2017 and now it’s completely different. I was so disappointed by unfreshness of seafood itself and rice was too much watery and sticky. You can see the picture of uni has been changed recently from the review. Above all that hygene was total...
