It's easily one of the best sushi meals we've ever had. We went at around 7.15 pm and the restaurant was pretty full. After we sat down, another couple came in, and the chef said they were sold out for the evening. He explained that they were running out of sushi rice. We ordered omakase style sushi, which simply means the chef continues to feed you until you tell him you're full. He explains every piece of sushi (in Japanese) and how you should eat it; whether to dip in soya sauce or eat it just as it is. The sushi chef is a young 36 year old assisted by his brother. He told us he helms the dinner slot while his father, who started the restaurant, is the chef for the lunchtime crowd. The sushi is excellent; the rice is well balanced, and the fish is very fresh. Price is also very reasonable. The young chef is very friendly and smiley. We communicated via Google Translate. My wife and I were the last 2 customers to leave and we finished up the sushi rice. He said he is so happy we enjoyed our meal. When we left the restaurant, both brothers thanked us loudly (Japanese style), and the chef came out of the shop to see us off, bowing 90° for a good 15 seconds. It's really heartening to see a young chef so enthusiastic about his food and customers. We'll certainly eat here at least once whenever we visit Osaka. Highly recommended! After note: We were back at Yakko Sushi Tengo again 3 nights later for dinner. The young chef and his assistant brother were so happy to see us. This time, we came really hungry and ate more. Same comments; a great sushi meal! Everything was so fresh and made with care and love...
Read moreMy friend and I stumbled upon this place for lunch since we were craving some sushi. From start to finish it was a wonderful omakase experience!! And honestly I don't think it can get more "authentic & local" than this if that's what you're looking for.
The chef and staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, even tried using Google translate to communicate with us and explain the dishes. The fish was very fresh, instructions were given (no soy sauce, careful hot etc) since we were visibly hesitant about how to properly eat and not make a fool of ourselves sitting among all the other local guests. At the end of our meal and after all of their effort, the chef and staff still made sure to thank us specifically for stopping by and for enjoying the food.
For this quality and service our total bill was very reasonable. Would totally return when we...
Read moreOne of the best experience of Japan. Try the omakaze!!! Owner and 2 sons are really friendly. One of the son speaks good English. Owner doesnt but he made effort to converse with us through google translate. They even let us try senshu doburaki (rare white japanese rice wine available only once a year in early autumn) and wakayama style sake on the house, foc. Food-wise, best sushi of my life so far. I cant believe we only paid 24k yen for 9 course omakaze for 5 ppl, with drinks ( we stopped at 9th plate as they ran out of rice, it was full house, and they apologized for that). It can accomodate up to 14-15 ppl. We came in at friday night 7 pm. We filled up the last 5 seats. Crowd wise not so bad, wondering why such a great place has little crowd,...
