By recommendation by locals, we were lucky to not queue for more than 15 minutes. A fried chicken shop serving mainly shokudou chicken dishes (has other varieties).
Although the restaurant was large, and already packed, you could tell that this place gets busy. You're arrived with the need to use the ticket booth and a dedicated waiting room, which you will be called to and guided to your table. (There's a tatami and chair seating).
We ordered the half fried chicken set and some fried chicken don sets. The only low rating for service is that it takes ages to be served. So either it was busy or just cooked by demand and how its cooked, so recommend having a look at the menu and make a decision soonest.
When our dishes arrived, piping hot and extra crispy, the food delivered. It was delicious, just cooked right, crispy, and juices overflow. As we were a large group, all orders of chicken dishes were cooked to perfection/near-perfection.
Prices are good as its a set menu, however do advise that if youre a small eater, consider sharing or ordering a smaller menu as the portion is not skimped.
Aside from it taking long for the dishes to be prepared, the service by the staff is attentive.
Don't worry about space, there's ample space for seating and big size people.
Recommend have some space for the stomach or control your ordering as the portions are...
Read moreFired chicken is quite a common cuisine in Japan. You can take it easily in Japan. However, Naruto's fried chicken is the best in Japan.
Naruto Main Shop is easy to access and near Otaru station. They also have branches in Sapporo. The main shop provides a compressive menu in fried chicken, pork, seafood and vegetables. Of course, if you go to Naruto, you must try their fried chicken.
Please remember to order half size chicken because the chicken is from Japan. Other pieces of fried chicken are from other countries.
Naruto's chicken is simply marinated with salt and ginger but for over 24 hours. The way they fry the chicken is without flour, unlike the fried chicken in other places in Japan.
The chicken will be fried twice so that you can taste the crispy skin. Furthermore, the fat below the skin will be greatly reduced. The chicken skin was very tasty and do not have any sign of oily. The chicken inside is very hot and juicy. Yummy ! The meat is tender and firm.
A set of half chicken including rice and soup only charge you about ¥1250. It is not pricy at all.
There are some points to note. 1.The shop does not provide plastic glove. You place an order at cashier and make payment in advance. The shop also provide take away. However it is not recommended as the chicken skin will become soft in the bag.
A highly recommended restaurant for...
Read moreA couple at a kaiseki restaurant recommended I stop by Naruto Honten if I was visiting Otaru. Their recommendation is spot on.
It's a bit of a walk from Otaru station, but not so far that you need a taxi.
As you enter, there's a touchscreen next to the ordering booth. If you're a foreigner, just head straight for the touchscreen; you can change the language and they're prepared with Korean, English, and Chinese. There's seats next to the touchscreen, but that's for to-go orders.
All you need to input is how many people are in your party, then grab your number receipt, and head to the sliding door to the right side that leads to a waiting room. Inside is a TV screen that displays which number is up.
Once you're called up and seated, you can order and man do they have a wide variety of foods. It's pretty hard to go wrong here as they're known for their fried and grilled food, but also have direct access to the sea so any seafood dishes can be expected to be fresh and on-point.
The number one thing to order is their fried chicken. It has that light crispy skin and tender white flesh right after the initial crispy bite. Think they might put a soy glaze before frying it; whatever seasoning they're using, it's undeniably good.
Would echo the couple's recommendation and suggest you make this a stop if you're...
