Yamatoya Honten — Restaurant in Otaru

We stumbled upon this fantastic sushi-focused restaurant while searching for dinner near our hotel, after a snowy walk through Otaru considering many options along the way.

To start, we ordered: • Salmon Sashimi – ¥1,210 • Ama-Ebi (Sweet Shrimp Sashimi) – ¥1,320 • Ebi Tempura – 3 prawn tempura + 2 vegetable tempura • Yasai Tempura – Assorted vegetable tempura (6-7 varieties)

The salmon sashimi initially looked a little thickly cut, but once I tried it, I was surprised by how delicate and delicious it was. Even my brother, who isn’t usually into sushi, absolutely loved it.

The sweet shrimp sashimi was incredible—soft, fresh, and packed with flavor.

As for the tempura, everything hit the spot, but the prawn tempura was a clear standout—light, crispy, and perfectly cooked.

For our second round, we went for: • Anago – Conger eel simmered in sweetened soy sauce – ¥1,650 • Unagi Kabayaki – Grilled eel fillets with sweetened soy sauce – ¥4,200

Both eel dishes were phenomenal, but the anago especially stood out. The sweetened soy sauce was a new experience for me, and when paired with the sansho seasoning, the balance of flavors was just right.

Great place. I had a 9 piece sushi plate which was really lovely. My husband got a a sashimi bowl. Both were nice but the bowl was a little on the small side. We also got a plate of vege tempura but this was sadly a little disappointing with not many vegetables and also we felt that they had forgotten this as it came out a long time after...

私は二人で利用しましたが(予約なし)、待っている客無し＆席が空いているのにも関わらず30分以上待たされました。 さらに、店員にレジの前にある椅子で待つよう言われ、座っていたら違う店員に「お客様は…なんですか？」と聞かれすごく不愉快。 席を待ってる以外何あるんですか？なんで確認したの？？

そして、あとから入ってきた5人組の常連客(予約なし)だったのに私たちより先に案内されたんです！！ その時点で帰ろうとしたとき、また高齢者2人組が入ってきました。もちろん予約なしで。 そしたら30分以上待っていた私たちと同時にその2人組も案内され、あの待ち時間は一体なんだったんだろうという気持ちでした。

これだけでは終わらず、私たちとあとから来た2人組は隣の席でした。 席にはピンポンが置いてあり、隣の人よりも先にピンポンを押しキッチンの方から「はーい！」という声も聞こえてきたので来るかなーと思ってたら まさかの隣の2人組に注文を取り始めました！ 流石にここまで来ると笑うしかなく、とりあえず席には座ってるし食べてから帰ろうと思い隣の2人組の注文が終わったあと、すぐに声をかけ注文しました。

若いからか舐められてるのかもしれません。ですが、私達も同じ「客」でしっかりお金を払っています。 それなのに、差別的な対応はもちろん最低ですしせっかくの旅行が台無しになります。 クチコミを見る限り私たちだけではないと思いますが、それが尚更腹ただしい💢 前からクチコミで言われてるのにも限らず改善する気がないのでしょう。 対応が悪すぎて、海鮮丼も美味しく食べられませんでした。 早く出たかったですし。 それから、ワンドリンク制なら事前に書いておいた方がいいと思います。昼の時間でいきなり飲み物を先に聞かれたのはびっくりしました。 まあもう二度と行きま...
