Mokumokuya is one of the best options for dinner in the Rusutsu ski area. Conveniently located minutes from the Rusutsu Resort, Mokumokuya specializes in reasonably priced lamb mutton Genghis Khan BBQ style with popular all you can eat and drink options.
The cuts of lamb are generous and solid in quality and itโs served with a smattering of vegetables including onions, cabbage, and bean sprouts. Each diner received a savory ponzu like dipping sauce and you cook on your own.
Pair with a Japanese beer and you have a recipe for full stomaches and happy diners during the winter months. Itโs nothing groundbreaking breaking but is refreshingly Japanese run and laidback.

Do yourself a favor and just get the all-you-can-eat options for Y5,000 per person unless you are really good at guessing how many grams of meat you will eat. English is limited, but gesturing and smiles made for fine communication and service was lively and attentive. It will get very smoky so wear clothes you don't mind smelling like grilled meat.
But, this was a great meal. The lamb is some of the mildest I've ever tasted. The dipping sauce is delicious. The vegetables were plentiful (cabbage, mung beans sprouts, potato, onion). It was fun to cook yourself in this domed cast iron plate and it was high quality ingredients. Go early if you don't want to be as smoky.

It was also my four year son's birthday that day. We were only verbally wishing him happy birthday at the restaurant (as we had celebrated earlier). The staff overheard and, to our surprise, changed the Japanese pop music they were playing on the speakers to the happy birthday song, pulled out some party crackers ๐๐๐ and sang the song for my son together. โค๏ธ At the moment, we definitely felt their warmth and "omotenashi" firsthand. Thank you for providing such a wonderful...
