A foreigner-friendly restaurant in Nikko Market. They have English menu's. It gets busy during lunch, even on a cold weekday. You may have to wait 30-50 minutes. Parties of 4 or more will have difficulties getting a seat, as they can only sit around 10-12 people in total.
I got the D set: tuna, snow crab, sea urchin (uni), and snow crab. It is my first time having Hokkaido sea urchin and snow crab, so I was excited. The sea urchin was creamy, and did somewhat melt in your mouth. It didn't have any bad aftertaste, as I can assume it's caught pretty fresh.
The snow crab had a lighter flavour compared to dungeness crab. The taste doesn't hit your tongue as hard, and it had a hearty but fluffy chew to it. A bit of bite, but broke down pretty easily. The tuna and salmon were both great, and the wasabi they gave was a good quality, not too spicy either.
They have complimentary crab miso soup, in which they give a small piece of crab leg inside. It's flavoured really well, and the crab itself was tasty. Very nice on a cold winter day.
It was a nice experience. The portion is a bit small, but with how fresh the seafood is and the great hospitality, it's a good restaurant.
They also have melon-flavoured...

Try to aim for indoor as you can see the chef in action in preparing your bowl of happiness and enjoy a little privacy from public eye trying to pry what’s in your bowl.
I was there quite late around 11ish am, hence no queue at all.
This restaurant doesn’t offer aburi (seared) at all, but you can top-up your seafood bowl with reasonable, individually priced seafood. We visited this shop twice during our span of 6 days trip.
To be fair, both meals were good as the seafood was super fresh and the price I must say is super cheap compared to a few other restaurants I had. However, I was a bit disappointed with the second visit as the seafood only filled the surface of my bowl compared to my first visit, it was 1/3 of the bowl!
Side note: if you super OCD for food prep without glove, this restaurant is not for you 😂😂😂 but I guess that’s the way to go for all sushi...
Read moreSmall shop with very limited seating but worth the wait if there is one. Some of the best seafood around the market and better than other donburi shops that we tried. The price is very fair for the quality and the portions. The ikura and uni were my favorite. The kani was a bit diluted but flavorful nevertheless. The chef spends much time and attention to detail in crafting each bowl - really enjoyable to watch from the countertop seat. The owners were extremely friendly, offering us hot tea while we waited a few minutes outside for the next two seats to open. Don’t waste your time elsewhere for donburi -...
