Had the pleasure of having omakase at Sushi Kazu, where I made reservations for a Friday evening dinner. The experience was truly exceptional, as you have the option to set a price range for the chef to curate a delightful array of dishes based on your budget. We opted for approximately 20,000¥, and what followed was a culinary journey that I will never forget.
We began with a small serving of Shirako (fish sperm), which was my first encounter with this delicacy. To my surprise, it was absolutely delicious—malty and gooey, with a hint of ocean saltiness that was rich in flavour. This set the stage for what was to come. What followed was a gastronomic sushi adventure featuring at least 20 different forms of sushi and sashimi, making me feel as though I had tasted the essence of Hokkaido. Standouts included Kinki fish, hairy crab, uni, scallops, abalone, and monkfish, with the Kinki fish sashimi paired with monkfish liver being my favourite item—it was simply phenomenal.
For cooked dishes, we enjoyed crab roe chawanmushi and a hearty bowl of Kinki fish miso soup at the end. Each dish was expertly crafted and presented.
