Sushi Satō — Restaurant in Sapporo

We visited this sushi place after receiving recommendations from a local we met the day before. It’s a popular spot among locals and salarymen, and when we arrived, there was already a small queue, even though they had just opened at 11:30 a.m.

For lunch, there are only two options: a 10-piece sushi set or a 13-piece sushi set, both of which include tea and miso soup. The seating arrangement is very efficient, and the average dining time per person is about 10 minutes, making the turnover impressively fast.

The sushi itself had noticeably more rice than fish, which made the meal very filling due to the portion of rice. The raw fish on top, however, was fresh, clean-tasting, and without any lingering fishiness, showcasing the quality that locals seem to appreciate. While the variety of fish was good, I personally felt that the ratio of fish to rice was off, with too much rice and not enough fish for my taste. Perhaps this style of sushi simply isn’t for me.

The restaurant is particular about photography, likely to discourage excessive photo-taking and maintain a calm atmosphere. The dining experience was quiet and efficient, especially during the busy lunch period. We were in and out in about 20 minutes.

Overall, this spot is ideal for locals who enjoy fresh sushi and a quick dining experience, but the rice-to-fish ratio might not suit everyone, especially tourists...

Small hidden gem. It was a little hard to find but with some sleuthing using other google review pics, was able to locate the restaurant.

We ordered the a sashimi set and a sushi set enough for 2. The quality and the freshness was unreal. Paired with a simple sparkling sake, the meal was delicious.
