My favourite place to visit whenever I was in Shirakawa! A cute little coffee shop run by an elderly grandpa, this isn’t the kind of place you can just rush through. Only visit here if you have time to slowly enjoy yourself and you’re not on a schedule.
Beautiful selection of coffees with a little menu of food and cakes but it’s really all that’s needed. The chocolate cake is definitely my favourite thing to order but the sweet toast options are also delicious!
If you don’t have time to slow down, come back next time when you have no time constraints. Seriously, no joke, it’s only run by one grandpa most of the time who might sometimes have an aunty come into help from time to time. Also don’t come here in a big group. Max 4 people because that’s the largest...
Read moreThis place was delightful. We waited outside before it opened at 12 ( we hadn't found any open café ), and it was well worth the wait. The café is run by a wonderful couple who gave me some candy when we left! I ordered a café au lait, some cinnamon butter toast, as well as a cheesecake, and all were delicious. The coffee was some of the best I have had in japan, super tasty and I got a piece of chocolate along with it! The cinnamon butter toast was warm and soft, not too sweet, just perfect. The cheesecake was also delightful, and together it was by far the best breakfast I have had in Japan. The atmosphere in the café was lovely, the music was nice and calm, and the interior in the café was great. I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone making a stop in...
Read moreWhat a lovely cafe, with such friendly and sweet staff and owner! I took a break from the long Golden Week line to the parking lot here with a coffee float (the coffee was nice and not too acidic or bitter for me), a cheesecake, and later I came back and had a hot lemonade which was actually my favorite thing. Just a note, they don’t accept credit card from what I understand, so please come prepared with cash (you should have lots anyway if you’re going to Shirakawa-go since I don’t think most of the places accept cards). The decor is very hip and cool and cozy.
There’s a good number of parking spots for such a little cafe and it’s easy walking distance from Shirakawa-go, so stop by while you’re there, or...
