Hakusuien — Restaurant in Shirakawa

The staff can communicate in English, and sometimes they use Google Translate if needed. I ordered the grilled pork set, which came with a hotplate, raw Hida pork with vegetables, and hot soba which I feel was average for me. At first, I thought there might not be enough alcohol gel for the hotplate, but it was sufficient. The pork was juicy and tender, although it took some time to cook it well done. The dipping sauce made it even tastier. The side dishes like boiled tofu and pickled vegetables were a good match. The miso soup wasn't to my liking, though. Overall, it's worth the money considering...

Seeing that there were not a lot of restaurants open during the time we went to Shirakawa we were lucky to discover this restaurant by accident. Immediately when you go inside, the smell of BBQ greets to in a good way. Their specialty is the local steak which was grilled on top of a leaf (very good) but I took the more adventurous route and opted to order the bear hotpot. (think of Yogi and Winnie the Pooh). The taste of the bear was not good but it wasn't bad either. It's just bear-y bland. Like tasteless beef. Price was reasonable....

Delicious food! Highly recommend!! We ordered the Hida beef set, the Hida beef hoba miso set and the vegetable hoba miso set! Love the set up for the hoba miso in the claypot and leaf. the miso was delicious. The hida beef was also fatty and thick. We sat next to the garden with a beautiful view. Highly recommend. All menus come with english translations as well. It was a traditional japanese dining setting in the middle of beautiful scenery. Located next to the bus station too, so perfect meal before your long...
