Absolutely astonishing cooking at this delightful restaurant. Located slightly out of the way in a beautifully converted old warehouse on the Takamatsu waterfront, this French/Japanese fusion restaurant serves excellent, high quality food and offers superb value for money. For the set price of ¥6,300 we had an amazing six course dinner plus a selection of amuse bouche to start things off. Completely stuffed after six courses the chef then, unprompted, made a bonus course of sushi and sashimi which, by then, we struggled to eat. The quality of the fresh fish was outstanding and the sashimi dishes were wonderful. As we couldn't manage desert, they insisted we took some tasty apple tart away with us in a doggy bag for later. Wine options were quite expensive (¥7,000 per bottle and upwards) so we had some excellent beer from a local Takamatsu micro brewery. In the UK a meal like this would cost four or five times as much. If you are in Takamatsu and do not eat here you need to give your...
Read moreAura is hands down the best French restaurant we experienced in Takamatsu. We had a truly special evening with just the two of us dining in the entire restaurant, which made the experience feel incredibly personal and intimate. The host was warm, welcoming, and spoke excellent English, which made communication smooth and added to the relaxed atmosphere.
Every dish was beautifully prepared and well thought out. Highlights for us were the perfectly cooked beef, the uni dish—which was rich and delicately balanced—and the overall pacing and presentation of the meal. You can tell there’s a lot of care put into both the food and the service.
If you’re looking for an elevated yet unpretentious French dining experience in Takamatsu, Aura is a must. It was one of the most memorable meals of our trip, and we’d...
Read moreWe dined here while in Takamatsu mid October for the triennale. This meal one of the best meals we've had in years. Usually we shy away from multi course prix fix, but the chef absolutely excelled on all fronts. The subtle combining of flavor in unusual combinations Timing between courses was perfect. Service was charming and engaging and they attempted their best English. We paired with an outstanding reasonably priced Assyrtiko and found the wine list quite reasonable overall with interesting choices. The chef speaks French and Japanese and was genuinely interested in our reactions to his cooking. We highly recommend for a beautiful meal and experience. You won't be...
