An intimate Tempura restaurant where the chef cooks a set menu for you item by item (a la carte also available). A very unique and interesting experience and one of our most delicious and memorable meals in Japan!

We ordered the ‘Hana’ set menu with two imported prawns and 6 veggies; which were pumpkin, eggplant, lotus, shiitake mushroom, ochre, mixed veggies. Each was delicious!

The chef served them up one at a time with the precision and care of one with many years experience.

I didn’t get photos of all of the items as they came out without much of a gap in-between and pausing for photos didn’t seem to fit the vibe.

We also caved and got the tempura ice-cream at the end which was amazing! A thick and crispy donut-like batter on vanilla cream - incredible and a pretty cheap dessert.

All up an amazing experience and would recommend to anyone...

This is the place to be, if you enjoy tempura.

We have tried several tempura places in Kanazawa and Takayama. Some were okay, some were good.

But for really good tempura - it has to be Ebihachi.

Why?

Very fresh ingredients. Nice variety of vegetables and seafood. Friendly people. New customers even receive a short little explanation how to use the sauce, curry powder and salt.

For sure, good tempura is about the freshness & quality of ingredients but it's also very much about technique and the chef at Ebihachi is a master.

His batter is tender & light, with just the right amount of crisp. The Chef fries in batches, as you eat, so the tempura is always hot.

Regardless of size or shape, every piece of tempura is properly cooked. Not over, not under but just right.

The tempura sauce is excellent. The miso is full...

Tasty food, decent price. But we were in and out in 40 minutes and that was thanks to our drink that we hadn’t finished yet. Food was served in an extremely rapid pace. The entire course (we took the largest one) was over within 25 minutes to be exact. I’m usually a fast eater but I couldn’t keep up. Often my plate had several pieces on it yet to be eaten, but the chef kept adding the next course to our plates. I felt like we were being rushed out, even though half the shop was empty when we were there and we came in with a reservation. There was no conversation except for being told what we were being served. I came to this place because of the raving reviews so I was quite disappointed that it...

Some of the best tempura we've ever had! We ordered the Hana set which comes with 2 shrimp, 6 vegetables, rice and miso soup. The owner taught us three new ways to eat tempura: dipping in salt, dip in curry powder, & dip in salt & curry powder. We've always dipped our tempura in tempura sauce but the salt was fantastic!!! 😍 We also ordered the plum sake which was sooo good. Owner speaks good english which is helpful. The restaurant is small and cozy, giving it a true Japanese experience. Since seating is limited, you are not allowed to share meals. Not vegan friendly. Tempura Ebihachi was amazing. Thank you for the delicious meal! Price is for 2 people.
