Sorry to say but the quality and service here has really declined over the years. Portions have gotten smaller, and some of our favorite items like raspberry soda are now off the menu. This was never a cheap place, but we used to come here twice a month to enjoy a different taste. In the last 1-2 years, the staff has often gotten really bad. It always was noticeable that the staff here is rotating a lot, no waiter seems to stay longer than a few weeks or months. Especially the good staff seems to leave quickly. Sometimes the kitchen staff is good, sometimes not. Some waiters forget orders, some literally drop the food down the table, or just have a bad attitude. Not sure whether that's supposed to imitate German lack of good customer service lol Also note that some of the German traditional dishes are very different due to a lot of shortcuts and less labor intensive cooking. Dishes such as Koenigsberger dumplings and goulash have a bland instant sauce taste, sometimes even watery consistencies. German style fried potatoes are ridiculously small in size and underdone, not crispy at all - assuming because it would take more time otherwise. Curry wurst sometimes only has 1 spoon full of sauce :( The flammkuchen is extremely dry and hard since the kitchen saves on expensive sour cream/creme fraiche. @the owners: Please have a close look at the staff management and training in this branch. There seems to be something really wrong and it's making visits...

I am a regular customer of Schmatz for many years. I go several times per month to enjoy the delicious lunch set. My experience has been great so far. They alway had great and friendly waiters and waitresses, as is usual in japanese stablishments.

For this reason, I decided to invite my family to have a snack today and I brought my toddler with me. However, they had a new waitress that was extremely unfriendly. We sat and she did not offer water or anything. She went to the bar and talk to the person behind the bar. We waived our hands gently to order our drinks and she and the person in the bar repeatedly ignored us. We waited for long time and we had to repeatedly say sumimasen until the waitress finally came with a very unfriendly and unpleasant actitude.

My experience today was extremely unpleasant. Luckily at the end, the usual waiter I know for long time came and gave us a free orange juice as service. Other waiter was playing and smiling to my toddler.

I hope no other customers experience this bad service provided by the new waitress that was...

I would give less than a star if I could. Super expensive and was charged extra for cover charge. After reading a review which said the same I looked it up and saw it it written teeny tiny in the menu book on the very bottom of the front page. To top it off it was super expensive for the sizes of the dishes. We had the Nürnberger mini sausages with german potatoes, kartofelsalat, pickles and fried Spätzle. Who deep fries Spätzle. I thought it was pan fries after being cooked or something. I didn't even know how to eat that. The pickles and Kartoffelsalat was good taste wise but ridiculous size wise for that price. The potatoes that came with the Nürnberger sausages were slightly under cooked and the mustard tasted weirdly overly like vinegar. A hard no. Haven't been this...
