Shimo-Kitazawa Station — Local services in Tokyo

A wonderful station managing the traffic of a wonderful part of the city.

Shimo-Kita is a relatively small station by Tokyo standards, but it's clean, bright and welcoming. There are touches of art and other decorations spotted around the station to give it a more relaxed vibe in keeping with Shimo-Kita's atmosphere.

There is a slightly confusing element where the Inokashira line entrance doesn't have throughput to the rest of the station. In particular, there is an entrance on the north west part of the station that can be misleading. Thankfully there are signs up in English to help, but still be aware. It isn't the end of the world if you beep in by accident, as any of the staff can help reverse it for you.

The area immediately around the station is lively and vibrant, with some lovely open space and just plain pleasant architecture. Its certainly a station to feel at home in as opposed to behemoths of Shibuya down the road...

At first, I wanted to go to Shimo-kitazawa since it was mentioned in the popular anime "Bocchi the Rock!" and I wanted to photograph the location. But I didn't realize this town was so cool! When you walk out of the train station (which is actually a very nice station for having restaurants and clean restrooms), you're treated with a gorgeous vista of the entire district; it has a funk town vibe, and the people there are quite chill. There are numerous restaurants and clothing stores to fulfil a wide range of tastes, and if you came for the anime, there is also a store that sells items as well as other toys and gaming accessories. Although there are not many famous tourist sites in this town, the atmosphere makes it worthwhile to take a walk. Even if you aren't interested in the anime, I highly recommend visiting...

小田急小田原線と京王井の頭線が乗り入れる、東京都世田谷区北沢２丁目に位置する駅です。 新宿と渋谷に近く、二大繁華街に鉄道で直結する商業地であり、老舗の町として知られています。愛称は「シモキタ」。

駅名の由来は1927年（昭和２年）の開業時、当地は世田ヶ谷町下北沢に位置していた。シモキタは前近代の下北澤村に由来する大字で、上流の上北澤村と対比した地名。行政地名とした下北沢は現存せず、当地は世田谷区北沢であります。

小田急線と京王井の頭線は当駅で立体交差していて、京王が高架駅、小田急が地下駅構造です。小田急の地下駅化で生じた駅周辺の空き地は「下北線路街」として商業再開発されています。 駅の出入口・改札口は主に東口が小田急、西口が京王電鉄が管理している。 ※小田急では2013年（平成25年）３月から地下駅となり、以前は周辺に踏切があって利用者はとても不便でした。その日を境に、踏切が撤廃された。

京王井の頭線は島式ホームを有する高架駅であり、急行停車駅となっています。ホームの明大前寄りは地表と同じ高さで、近くには踏切がある。隣の池ノ上駅・新代田駅までは約600mしか無く、ホーム端から両駅が見える。 改札が地上１階、ホームが２階に位置し、改札とホームを結ぶエレベーターとエスカレーターが設置されている。エレベーターは渋谷寄りにございます。ホームドアは2021年（令和３年）11月に設置され、12月から使用開始されました。吉祥寺・渋谷駅に次いで３駅目となります。

小田急線は複々線区間上にある２層構造の地下駅で、各駅停車・準急・通勤準急・千代田線直通急行が発着する緩行線ホームが地下１階（青色）、快速急行・急行・通勤急行が発着する急行線ホームが地下２階（オレンジ色）で、全列車が10両編成に対応する島式ホームです。 2018年（平成30年）３月から複々線区間が完成し、とても便利な駅に生まれ変わった。線路が各ホーム２本ずつ、計４本が走ります。 特急ロマンスカーを除く、全列車が停車する駅で、下り快速急行は当駅を出ますと登戸駅まで止まりません。ご利用の方は停車駅にご注意下さい。経堂と成城学園前駅へは急行・準急をご利用下さい。

各ホームと地上にある改札階は２台の大型エレベーター及びエスカレーター・階段が設置されています。急行線ホーム中央にあるエスカレーターは地上改札階直通の長いエスカレーターとなります（緩行線ホームには参りません）。多機能トイレは地上改札階と急行線ホームの経堂寄りにあります。 ホームドアは緩行線ホーム（地下１階）から設置され、2019年３月30日(土)から使用開始。後に急行線ホーム（地下２階）にも設置され、2020年12月12日(土)から使用開始されました。 2019年（令和元年）11月より、駅構内にある商業施設「シモキタエキウエ」が開業し、改札階から行けますのでお買物や飲食等にご利用下さい。様々なイベントも見逃せません。

１日の乗降客数もかなり多く、小田急線が約12万人・井の頭線も約12万人が利用します。特に土日祝日等の休日は利用者が増加傾向になり、お出掛けする人が沢山見られます。 小田急線も乗降客数上位ベスト10にランクインしており、かなりの客が当駅を利用しますね。井の頭線も渋谷・吉祥寺駅に次いで第３の規模を誇り、京王電鉄の駅では新宿・渋谷・吉祥寺・調布駅に次いで５...
