We stayed in Rm 501, which is a beautiful, well-equipped, spacious apartment on the top level of the building with its own little balcony. This apartment had double beds next to each other on the floor near the lounge & balcony area and a separate double bed in a corner at the other end of the apartment near the bathroom, behind the kitchen area.
Level 5 (Rm 501) was a really great space to come back to and lounge about in, at the end of a big day of sight-seeing. The large dining table was used well by our group to sit and eat and catch up on what we had seen & done that day, and to empty the rubbish out of & re-organise our day bags.
Location was excellent for good food options, thrift shops and boutique streetwear. Grateful for the well-stocked bathroom (towels & toiletries) and also for the washer-dryer machine with detergent pods supplied! Was great to be able to put a load on at the end of the night then wake to clean dry laundry.
Shower & toilet(with bidet) are in separate areas of the bathroom with lockable doors to each. So larger area of bathroom with double basin and washing machine were still able to used while shower & toilet were in use. Lots of towels & toiletries supplied.
Entrance was a bit hard to locate at night when we arrived. The shopfront that we had seen in pictures and planned to use as a landmark, had changed. I have added an updated pic of shop front (as at 11 Oct 2024) and have submitted a more accurate pin for the entrance.

Read moreIlli com Shimokitazawa was a fantastic experience! The location is perfect—close to all the major sites, with plenty of vintage shops, easy access to the subway, and a great variety of food options in the neighborhood. You'll find some of the best coffee roasters and a unique mix of American vintage fashion. The blend of young and older crowds makes it a great spot to experience Tokyo, offering a tucked-away feel while still being close to everything!
We absolutely loved this area! The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, and the shower has excellent water pressure. However, the space can feel a bit dark in the evening. A couple of additional table lamps would improve nighttime lighting, and the light covers over the table and kitchen could use an upgrade—the current ones are a bit harsh. Also, the bright green exit sign would benefit from a dimming option for better ambiance.
The owners are very responsive and super friendly! We highly recommend this...
Read moreWe loved our stay at illi com Shimokitazawa. The apartment was big enough for 4 people, we were two adults and two teenagers (16 and 13) who like some space and this was perfect. The facilities were great. A full sized fridge, washer/dryer-in-one came in very handy, bathroom and shower were large and very good. The area was fantastic, we loved the shops and ambience of Shimo-kitazawa. This was our first time in Japan and the size of this room compared to others is why I decided on staying in this area, and prior to arriving I was worried that it would be too far from city centres like shibuya, etc. But it was great, 6 minutes walk from the train station and one or two stops from shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku. Plenty of shops around for food and local shopping, a don quijote a few streets away, and local markets near the station on the weekends. It's an un-manned hotel, so no reception for immediate contact but we didn't mind that...
