It's tough to give 3 stars to a restaurant that doens't have much to go for in the foed department. But this joint deserves a shout out.
Out in the middle of nowhere in the outskirts of Tokyo, in a city named Tama, exists an Indian / Nepali restaurant that is run by an actual Nepali. And to get such cuisine right, it is not easy in Japan.
Now the restaurant on Google Maps is miscategorized as "Japanese Curry" which it absolutely isn't. They serve northern Indian and Nepali cuisine. So let's get that settled.
And even so, the restaurant is trying to do too much. Northern Indian (naan, butter chicken, etc.), Nepali (momos), and even Thai food. The chef needs to understand that even if you want to play off of local ignorance that does not know the authenticity of these cuisines and how far away they are, there needs to be focus in getting a few things right.
The food is clearly non-authentic. We ordered naan and butter chicken, as well as another chicken curry. The mango lassi that came alone is absolutely watered down. The korma / curry was actually pretty good and hats off to the chef. A bit too sweet but most likely catering to local palates. The naan was quite good too but again, didn't have the heft that I'm used to. Everything else was either meh or not worth mentioning.
We do want to call out that the Pad Thai was an abomination so do not order this at any cost.
Even so, we applaud the chef trying. And yes, this does give you a slight change up in the flavor palate in the region in addition to Japanese...
Read moreI was so happy to discover there’s a Namaste Kitchen close to where I live so I checked it out last weekend. I ordered kid’s curry set and upgraded it to cheese nan (which they allowed for an extra 250 yen) and a Thai lunch set called Khao Man Gai in case my kid did not like the curry. It was supposed to be steamed chicken so I expected it to be soft but it was so hard I couldn’t even eat it myself. The soup and rice that came with it was okay though. The curry was so-so. The cheese nan felt more like a bread with cheese. It was the first time I got disappointed with a Namaste store branch. The staff were very kind and...
Read moreI usually eat Cheese Nann and Green Curry in the different Indian curry restaurant in Japan, but the last week when I visited the Tama Center and I saw the newly opened restaurant there with the name "Namaste Kitchen Tama Center". I found this restaurant as a highly decorated and customer friendly restaurant. All staff were very friendly. This time i ordered Kabuli Naan, Cheese Naan and Green Curry for my dinner. As far as I know Kabuli Naan is a very new item in Japan which was very Soft, sweet and delicious. Green curry was very tasty compared to other Indian curry restaurants in Tokyo. I would like to recommend the...
