雲丹専門店 海栗屋（うにや）新宿店 Sea urchin specialty store — Restaurant in Tokyo

This is the worst dining experience that I ever have before. Both service and food are not up to standard.

Service: The restaurant was yet well prepared for business after 3 hrs of its opening time (17:30). We are required to wait outside until appointment time while there was no customers inside the restaurant. A corner table with extreme narrow space was arranged for us given that we are the only customers inside. When we intended to pay by card, waiter reinforced and kept requesting for cash which sounded non-sense to us.

Food: We ordered urchin hotpot. Urchin is fresh and tasted good. Portion is small but acceptable. We ordered congee (雑炊) when we nearly finished urchin hotpot. When we expect waiter to put rice into the pot and cook, he took away our pot and served us a “brand new bowl” of congee which pretended to be prepared by our pot! That’s weird from our understanding, especially we have not yet finished all food(e.g. prawn & vegetables) !

In general, it is an unpleasant experience. Maybe our expectation is just too high. But I will not recommend this restaurant to people,...

We opted for a meal that cost a staggering 30,000 yen. However, what followed was a nightmarish aftermath. Upon returning home, both my son and I experienced severe food poisoning, marked by persistent vomiting and diarrhea.

This distressing incident has raised serious concerns about the hygiene standards at this establishment. I strongly urge the management to address these issues promptly to ensure the well-being of their patrons.

While I understand that such situations can occur, the exorbitant cost of the meal only added to our disappointment. I hope this review serves as a constructive message for the improvement of their food safety practices.

I recommend exercising caution if considering dining at 海栗屋 and sincerely hope the management takes necessary steps to prevent similar incidents...

This store is a complete scam, especially towards tourists. They have a separate menu for tourists which is significantly more expensive than the local one. The staff pretended not to understand English and randomly placed orders; we ordered one portion, but four portions were served. Additionally, we noticed that the sea urchin shells were repeatedly reused, and the sea urchin itself was not fresh and had a moldy smell. Moreover, when we tried to order cheaper set meals, they claimed they were out of stock and only allowed us to order the most expensive sets.
