Balcony by 6th is a restaurant located on 3rd floor of Azabudai Hills. It serves all day dining with International cuisine based on Italian cuisine. The restaurant design theme is botanical garden atmosphere with outdoor terrace seatings.
We were escorted to a booth table next to the window. The view was not great. The tables in the middle were too close to each other leaving just narrow paths for people to get access to their tables by the window. The restaurant table layout seems to make the patron conversation sound lingered throughout the whole venue. I found it a bit annoying and noisy.
We ordered truffle fries : ok. I tasted better ones elsewhere and the fries were too thinly cut and were not piping hot.
Spaghettin|Tomato Sauce|Pork Ragout and New Ginger - tasty but the portion served was bit too small.
Tagliatelle|Lemon Cream Sauce|Macrobrachium Rosenbergii - tasty but the portion served could be a bit bigger
Nicoise Salad with Homemade Tuna - ok
Chitarra|Wagyu Bolognése - too little beef in the pasta but sauce was good.
Basque Cheese cake (limited supply) was divinely tasteful, its texture was soft and creamy. We should have ordered one more.
The famous 6th pancake was overrated by social media. I found that the texture was a bit on the dry side and was not quite fluffy as expected. I could not rate it as the best pancake in Tokyo. Sorry.
Thank goodness we booked the table through website well in advance otherwise need to wait and wait in queue…..
Overall the food and service was just mediocre, I did not feel any wow effect after all. I really don’t like the table setup (too close to each other, especially those tables set in the middle between the kitchen and the window seatings. I felt confined and uncomfortable to dine in the restaurant. For the price charged, we think there is still room for improvement: less greasy, serve bit bigger portion; one funny point is that my paste cost same as the 6th pancake. The restaurant is under staffed; we need to wave to our waitress several times to get our bill and she only served our meals on the table and never came to check on us. I presume she was too busy.
Try this restaurant once for us is enough. The higher the expectation the greater the...
Read moreLong story short, I don’t know how I will be able to eat another pancake other then the one in Balcony by the 6th.
We went there twice, in the first time we arrived in 09:30 to make it to the breakfast menu and beat the line, which we did. We ordered the avocado toast with poached egg and the pancakes. We also ordered 2 cafe latte.
We weren’t expecting anything from the food (other than the pancakes), but the avocado toast was amazing!! And surprisingly special too, there was a mix of nuts and spices on top which took it to the next level! The pancakes were absolutely heavenly, and the second I had the first bite, I knew I had to return. I was scared they would be eggy like other fluffy pancakes we had, but it was nothing like it. It was so fluffy and cakey all at once and perfectly buttery (they used salted butter, whice created the ultimate sweet-salty combo). Heaven on earth. I wish they’d give a little more maple syrup, but when we asked for extra they quickly replied.
A bit of a downer was the coffee. Which was very pricey (around 4-5$) and not that good.
In our second return we took the pancakes (obviously) and the truffle fries, which was one of the best fries we had in a while (possibly the best). The waiter told us we must order a drink per person which was a bit odd because we ordered 2 dishes and saw other tables that didn’t do that, but ok.
In both times we paid around 2500 yen per person, which is quite pricey, but definitely...
Read moreBeautifully located at Mori Building Azabudai Hills and well decorated Italian/Japanese crossover restaurant with a vibrant modern. But I’m sorry to say their service level is unacceptable in Japan’s standard and probably the worst I personally have ever experienced in Tokyo.
We were first greeted by a stern face reception table who didn’t even attempt to interact with people in line even when the line was for pre-booked customers. And if you were early like us (cos I’ve seen her responded to people in front of me who were left unattended for approx 10min staring at the laptop), we’ve got a response ‘come back at your time’ without attempting to explain or anything. Sorry never seen this in Japan.
Table service was rush and impatient, and you better decide your drinks quick or else you’ll receive another stern look. Even if we did (knowing what happened to customers next to us), we quickly ordered wine and sparkling water, and we were served both drinks in similar wine glasses. Again never seen in Tokyo.
Food was decently good but big let down by other crew members. Again sorry to mumble about it and I wish they could improve...
