Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. My family and I are big fans of Thai cuisine and were excited to try this restaurant since it’s located near our home. However, we left feeling extremely disappointed.
To start with, the service was incredibly poor. The staff was outright rude. Despite having only three tables occupied, they ignored us multiple times when we tried to get their attention. Not even a simple “please wait” was offered—we were just flat-out ignored. I had to call out to the staff four times or more before anyone responded.
Apparently, there is a one-drink-per-person rule, which we found strange. When we asked for clarification, the staff member responded in an unwelcoming and dismissive tone. Even though we ordered a lot of food, one member of our group just wanted water, but that wasn’t acceptable to them. To make matters worse, they don’t serve water unless specifically requested—and when we did ask, it still took a long time to arrive.
The food itself was mediocre at best. Although we ordered appetizers, our main dishes came out first. By the time the appetizer finally arrived (after a follow-up), we had already finished most of our meal. There seemed to be no regard for proper serving order.
One glaring issue was the rice. The menu stated “Jasmine rice,” but what we were served was not Jasmine rice at all—it was sticky, like Japanese rice. As someone who frequents Thai restaurants, I can confidently say this wasn’t authentic Jasmine rice.
If you're looking for a proper Thai dining experience in the Azabu-Juban area, I highly recommend the restaurant Bangkok in Roppongi. The food there is much more authentic, and the staff are welcoming and polite.
P.S. To the management of Blue Papaya: For the love of good service, please train your staff in basic hospitality. This restaurant has potential, but the current level of service is unacceptable. I sincerely hope future customers don’t have to go through the same...
Read moreWe went to this small Thai restaurant last night for dinner after passing by it almost everyday for the past year. We had the chance to try their food during the Azabujuban matsuri festival and the satay and pad thai were delicious, so we kept the place in mind. We ordered our usuals for Thai restaurants, including Pad Thai, curry (yellow curry in this case), and a soup. We also ordered some roasted chicken, rice, and some shrimp chips. All the flavors were fantastic, without being overly salty. We asked for the pad thai to be on the milder side (versus spicy) since we were giving that to our young son. All the food and service that we received was great. We will definitely be back.
Edit: we came back a second time for dinner, and the server informed us that each adult had to order a drink (even though I didn't see it anywhere on the menu, nor was this mentioned nor enforced at our first visit here). The food was still good, but this forced drink order negatively affected my experience, as I generally dislike restaurants that do this. Would still...
Read moreRUDEST experience in over 30 years! Food was MEDIOCRE.
I was totally shocked at how rude the Thai female store manager (around 45-50 yrs old) was to myself and my family on October 12, 2024.
After eating lunch with my family, I simply asked to take home one of the meals that we couldn’t finish.
I was told in in quite rude Japanese that “you may not.” I then switched to English, to see if her tone would soften, but it didn’t.
When I asked why, I was told it was because it was “company rules.”
I calmly explained that the meal was already purchased, meaning it was now mine, and that they generally allow takeout at the restaurant, so please just give me a box, I will pack it myself and be gone.
She refused.
I asked if she was the owner, to which she rudely said no, only the manager, to which I asked for the owner’s contact information, but she refused to provide it.
When I calmly explained that I was feeling unappreciated, she told me she didn’t care.
I will never go back...
