Was in Harajuku with two others. Harajuku = Crepe. Lunchtime in Harajuku means savory crepes/galettes! Had to wait about Five minutes before a table opened. (2nd Visit) Came for lunch again. This time alone. Waited about 10 minutes.
Bretonne: Scarmbled egg, bacon, mushrooms, cheese, cream, Espelette pepper. Server recommended we try this classic combination. Delicious! Crispy galette. Definitely made up for the lackluster galette I was served in another galette restaurant.
Broceliande: Smoked Salmon, seasonal vegetables, cheese. Crispy galette. I felt that the combination didn't work well. The smoke salmon, spniach and cheese flavor and texture were at odds with each other. Didn't seem like a rounded out dish.
Maraichere: Sunny side up egg, artichoke, organic toamtoes, spinach, cheese. Crispy galette, slightly burnt. The vegetables were fresh and tasted great. Didn't stand out to much for me, but still fine.
Saveur d'Icci: Not really an exciting flavor. Tastes how you'd think it'd taste. Was okay.
Ducchess Anne: Had expectations for this, but was disappointed. Not sweet enough and still tasted strongly of alcohol. The apples tasted bitter! Did not like.
(2nd Visit)
Provencale: Sunny side up egg, organic tomato, ham, onion confit, anchovies, cheese, Provencale(?). Delicious! The anchovies and onion confit provided a nice twist to a usual combination.
Montagnarde: Similar to the Bretonne, delicious, but prefer Bretonne over this.
Briochine: Banana, spiced salted butter caramel, vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious! The caramel was the best I've had and the banana was nicely caramelized too. The spices they used was a nice touch. Should've order a second serving.
Carrement Chocolat: Valrhona chocolate, Valrhona chocolate ice cream. If you love dark chocolate this is for you. Yummy dark chocolate that perfectly described my second visit here, bitter sweet.
Conclusion: Eating with picky eaters is no fun. Would've loved to try other savory galettes, but one of my guests didn't like the flavor of meat (didn't touch the Bretonne.) They also ordered the Saveur d'Icci. Oh well,
Real Conclusion: Although set with limitations, as a lover of crepes I'm still interested in trying the crepes/galettes here again. The Bretonne was excellent!
(2nd Visit) This time everything I ate was spot on and the Briochine even surpassed what I expected from it. Although the food was excellent, the service was awful. In the beginning I ordered both the Provencale and Montagnarde, but my server only put in the order for Provencale thinking that I wouldn't be able to finish two galettes... Which wasted 15-20 minutes of my time to wait for the Montagnarde. I then asked for the menu again to order my desserts, but had to wait about 10 minutes before they brought me one... When I finally finished my meal and saw the check, they mixed up my order of Briochine with Bretonne, which is pricier... What a mess that was. The Carrement Chocolat crepe was indeed a fitting way to end my meal.
Would I go back? Even if only one of the dishes stood out to me, I'm still interested in the other flavors. (2nd Visit) As bad as the service was this time around, I'm always in it for the food and it was delicious. Wouldn't mind coming again.
Do I recommend this place? Yes, if you want traditional crepes done right try this place out. Hopefully there will be...
Read moreCame here for a crepe and a glass of wine, or maybe a galette and latte. It was a rainy day so it wasn’t packed like it normally is. Before we could even walk inside to close our umbrellas we were told what time we needed to leave. Exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes. Why? No clue. He said he was busy although it was raining and there were a few tables already available. He stuffed us in a corner outside where there was barely any room to scoot into a chair between the table and a shower curtain plastic material covering the patio. He left what looked like a checkbook on the table before we even received a menu. There wasn’t a receipt, just the time we arrived.
I was really excited to try it since I saw so many people here, and it seemingly had good reviews, but I don’t agree with the way I was welcomed. Or rather, kicked out before I could even sit down.
I perused the menu after being told about the lunch specials from a very nervous waiter. I know from the restaurant industry that a nervous environment breeds mistakes, which are only ever blamed on the employee and never the head of the operation.
The food looked quite good, except everything had ham. It is the cheapest meat you could use, and sliced very thin to look like prosciutto but it’s not. I could tell the menu was poorly put together, uninspired and distasteful.
Instead of ordering anything we just walked out. The only way I would come back is if someone thoroughly insisted, and I was greeted with a glass of Prosecco at the door instead of a scowl.
I shouldn’t have to think about how busy you think you are, especially when I see tables available. As a guest, I’m looking for refreshment and style in doing so, not a favor to you. I will not rush my lunch because you say you’re busy, especially when it’s raining and there is no one there. It should not be a restaurant policy to have timed seating, especially when every other place I go to in Tokyo has a queue but never someone to greet you at the door and say only two words,...
Read moreThe service has been good until today, when I was rather shocked at how they treated a repeat customer. I called in to make a reservation at 13:15, and was told that reservations can only be made at 13:00 or 13:30. I explained that we couldn't make by 13:00 and that we would have to leave by 14:15, so that 13:30 would be too tight. The staff ignored me and asked me to make a reservation at 13:00, and to call if we were late. I repeated that we couldn't make it before 13:15, and that if they let go of our table we would have a problem. Instead of confirming they would keep the table, he went back to repeating he could only take the booking at 13:00. I said I would book somewhere else and he replied "fine". This is no way of treating a customer, especially a repeat customer that also brings in new customers. I understand the restaurant's policy, but I do not understand the rudeness and lack of interest of the staff, especially since this conversation was happening in Japanese, so there were no language-barrier problems. Had he at least apologized for not being able to help, I would have understood, chosen another restaurant for this time, and remained a customer of Breizh. Now I will avoid all your restaurants, and shops. I have never been treated this way in your other restaurants in Japan nor France, and it reflects very badly on...
