Gyukatsu is the superior form of katsu. There I said it. It's better than chicken and pork. Very rarely do I get to enjoy gyukatsu and I was wonderfully surprised dining here just how good it can be. First, this shop is tiny. It can probably fit only 15 people. There are other locations that might be bigger than this branch. Next, you pay first then sit down. Not really weird since plenty of Japanese places do that but it's not through a machine, you order and pay with the attendant/server at the entrance of the restaurant and then sit down. Also it's only CA$H. I highly recommend getting the double portion because you'll want it. I don't really care for the yam side dish so I skipped that. Once you sit down, they'll bring out personal grills for each person. The gyukatsu will come out breaded and raw so you can use the grill to cook it to your liking. I really enjoyed this part and felt like I had full control to getting my beef just how I like it. The dish also came with rice, two sauces for dipping, and a cabbage salad. I've never liked cabbage salad but I LOVED this one. I think their salad dressing is just amazing. It is a little pricey but worth it!

Gyukatsu Motomura is always busy, be careful. On a random day at 1pm, I stumbled upon the one in Shibuya and was told the wait would be two hours. On a different day, I came here around 11am and waited one hour to be seated. This is a tourist hotspot so their menu is available in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and English. They have a spread of drinks, but their food menu is very streamlined, you get a serving of deep-fried wagyu beef, a bed of lettuce, and some sides. All you have to decide is how much you meat you want to eat, so figure that when you're in line and be ready to order right when you're seated. I ordered the largest serving and it came very quickly. They then set up a small heated stone for you to cook the individual pieces. The beef cutlet is served rare and you can use stone to sear the sides and cook it a bit more. I personally like my beef rare so I just chomped away and really liked it. This beef is super high quality with tons of marbling and tenderness. The pictures don’t lie. The rest of the meal was a good complement, with the rice, lettuce, and pickles acting as a good counterbalance to the fatty gyukatsu.

Wow. DELICIOUS! Firstly, the map took up to a clothes shop front on Harajuku. The is incorrect. The entry is off the main road/behind the shop. I have included a photo of what the front looks like. Ad I have requested a location update thru google. Secondly, if you can't do stairs then this is not the place for you - there is a steep set down to the restaurant. It is also very small inside, maybe 15 ppl max. Ok, now for the serious stuff. I should have got a bigger size, coz it was over too soon. So so so yum, perfectly tender (make sure you do not overcook!). The cabbage dressing is what dreams are made of. The sauces perfectly compliment the meat. The wasabi was #chefskiss. The miso was delicious, perfectly balanced flavours. I cannot fault a single thing. We got there right on 11am, there was no line and we were the 2nd table in. When we left, the line was up the stairs to street level. Because you are cooking the beef yourself it is not a quick meal (you really want to savour those flavours). Would recommend, and would definitely go again, 10/10

This is a no reservations branch of the Motomura chain housed in the basement of Jingumae NS building just off takashita street. The menu serves only gyukatsu in 3 options based on the size of the serving of 1, 1.5 and 2 cutlets. All options come with barley rice, shredded cabbage with sesame dressing, potato salad and miso soup. The gyukatsu is marbled and served rare. A personal hot stone is provided for you to cook the meat to your preference and a variety of sauces ( including wasabi, soya and rock salt) at your disposal to enhance the flavour of the beef. Side orders could be added for a mere 100yen including cod roe, yam etc) All in all great tasting, fun and value for money . We arrived for a late dinner on a weekday and there was no queue although this is the exception rather than the norm. All payment modes accepted But no wheelchair access from what I could see . Be prepared with your dressing and for the ladies (your hair) or you will go home leaving a strong tell tale scent of your motomura experience !

This is probably one of the more recommended chain restaurant that we were told to try out. After 4 attempts of trying to get a spot (at multiple locations), we finally snagged one (by going earlier on during the day and avoiding the prime dinner hours). We both ordered the standard beef cutlet set menu 130g portion with no additional add-ons. I love having the variety of sauces, and mini side dishes that gave each bite a different taste and experience. You can cook each piece to your liking. However, my biggest heads up... 130g was like a light snack. Did not fill me up at all. We had to get a second dinner (or you can order a bigger portion). Overall Kel rating: 3.5/5 The good: Beef is always good The decent: Careful, clothes can smell like bbq after. The ugly: Very limited seating. They can sell out early (hence do not go near closing). Lineups can be long. Portions can be small. On the pricier end of the food we have tried.
