A fantastic hidden gem that you need to try. Menu is limited to only panfried or steamed pork gyoza (with or without garlic) and sides but who can complain when 6 gyoza is only 340 yen?! We sat at the bar and got to watch the staff make the gyoza which was fun. There was no line when we arrived at 6.07pm on a Friday night and we got seated immediately, but there was one when we left around 7pm. The gyoza was fresh and juicy. Not the plumpiest but still super tasty. We got the garlic because yum. The panfried gyoza were my favourite, but the steamed were just as good. The miso cucumber side was deliciously fresh (crunchier than Aussie cucumbers but not as juicy!) and the miso reminded me of peanut butter? We decided to get the cucumber after reading all the google reviews that mentioned them and are glad we did! A fantastic meal that only set me and my partner back by 1,760 total including 2 x panfried gyoza, 1 x steamed gyoza, 1 x side and 2 x drinks. They are cash only though. Service wasn’t exactly with a smile, but it was fast and efficient, and you didn’t need to flag anyone down (they just seemed to know and weee very intuitive!). We did notice the staff joke around with some of the other customers so maybe it was just a language barrier (they had no issues understanding us though). Thank you! We will be back and recommending this place to all our friends :)

Harajuku Gyozaro must be the most well-known and classic restaurant in the Harajuku area, as the name suggests their main dish are gyozas (dumplings). This is the cheap eats place that everyone should visit at least once when they’re in the area with all the food under 300¥ a dish and alcoholic drinks under 600¥ a cup. They’re opened from 11:30 am – 4 am so it’s great option for lunch and/or late-night snack. There’s 2 flavors of gyoza, original (pork) or with garlic & leek and they can be pan fried or steamed coming in 6 per order. Then there are white rice & soup and 3 different vegetable dishes and that’s the end of the food menu. Even with the larger store size and the fast service there’s still often line ups particularly during the lunch and dinner rush. Particularly during the weekends they’re often busy from early evening (6 pm) all the way through to 10-11pm as people knock back a few drinks. The longest I’ve waited was around 15 minutes, so the line does move quickly.

Firstly, service was BAD, when I placed my order, I realised the staff didn’t write ANYTHING down, so I was baffled like if they placed the order but I trusted the service since I was in japan, usually services are 10/10 but obviously not here. They totally forgot our order. We noticed the tables AFTER us got their order earlier than us so we knew something was OFF. 1st time I reminded the staff, they looked confused and the waiter came back and said it will be the next batch of gyozas. So ok we wait…. but then…. saw the next batch of gyozas being made and NONE was for us, only for the people AFTER us. 2nd time I reminded the staff, they say “SOON SOON SORRY, 2 MINUTES” and I was like fine ok I wait another 2 minutes. After 5 minutes, STILL NOTHING! We went to the guy at the cashier (assuming he was the owner since he was managing the cashier and the only Japanese), and to tell him that we have waited for more than 30 minutes FOR GYOZAS? But the waiter immediately tried to stop us and told us “COMING SOON COMING SOON”, and gave us a starter on the house (bean sprouts with minced pork) but obviously was…. Justifiable! Waited for another 5 minutes and the gyozas FINALLY came. The taste of the ship gyozas was WEIRD for me and was not it, wasn’t crispy, meat was not fragrant. Not worth the total hour wait. We quickly finished it and paid + left. Owner apologised in Japanese but tbh we just wasted our time.

Service was nonexistent at best. The English menu given was misleading, since it only had 5 items but obviously there were more options written on the wall. We saw some people getting rice and soup but we weren't even sure if it came with the order or not since it was never written on the English menu. The price on the menu wasn't even accurate since the bean sprouts were listed as 180yen and they charged us 250yen. Food was okay, but it was frozen dumplings that took way too long to get served. If you have only 2 main items on the menu, steamed or fried gyoza, why does it take 45 min to serve someone? Every staff member looked very confused and disoriented. There was not much order and everyone tried to do a bit of everything which lead to more chaos. They were getting orders wrong and most people around us seemed annoyed. It should be a fast paced place and the line was long outside but the service was just so slow. The staff barely said a word to us, not even a hello, thank you, goodbye, anything. The waitress was disrespectful and never smiled. She took the money and while in the middle of transaction, wordlessly left us to go outside and seat people. She just looked mad the whole time and hated her job. Worst experience in Japan and not worth it. Don't know why people are waiting in line for this and not sure where the hype is. Gyoza is very average.

Harajuku Gyozaro specializes in mass producing pan-fried and steamed Gyoza. I see this shop as more of a quick stop or a snack place, although with enough Gyoza pieces you could definitely make a meal out of it! This shop has been around for a long time and they've been dishing up Gyoza for years. It's a simple food to prepare, so the cook time and turnaround is pretty quick. If there's a queue, it goes by fairly quickly. What I can say is that the price is astonishingly cheap. 6 Gyoza for 340¥. Extremely affordable. But you also get what you pay for. The service was alright. The only person who seemed to welcome everyone, tend to customers eagerly, and had a good attitude was the older gentleman working. The other guys were only focused on one task at a time while customers tried to make eye contact to put their orders in. The hygiene of the place needs some attention. The grease and oil is caked on everything and it does detract from the shop. It is cash only.

Got here before lunch, so no need to wait or anything. Got the beanspouts, cucumber, and some dumplings. Beanspouts were pretty nice, a lot of water at the bottom though which was a bit strange. Cucumber was pretty nice too with the miso sauce. Could use a bit of salt on the cucumber though (or maybe that's just a personal preference) The dumplings were pretty ho hum. Firstly, when it comes to the steamed dumplings- they aren't steamed, but rather boiled. This is just a mistranslation in to english on the menu though as far as I'm aware. The dumplings are not the thickest and so when they are boiled, it loses quite a bit of structure. Also got one variety of each fried gyoza. Again, felt like the filling could use a bit more salt, but also the dumpling itself tasted a bit watery/waterlogged. Not the best gyoza around, but wasn't too expensive so can't complain too much. Come if you are in the area, but I wouldn't make an effort to eat here.
