Located smack bang in the middle of the entertainment district behind Yodobashi Camera in Kichijoji, Chopsticks is a popular Vietnamese restaurant with branches in Koenji & Shimokitazawa. 🇻🇳

Creating their own noodles from scratch made from Japanese rice, they are the first Vietnamese place to use fresh rice noodles rather than dried. 🥇

I have been coming here for many years and dropped by one weekend for a late lunch - though it was 1:30pm there were 4-5 people lining up outside. 👥

With an all wooden interior, it has a quaint East Asian charm, and several of the staff are Vietnamese too, with happy energy. 😃

There are various lunch sets, with different combinations available, and I ordered dipping noodle with a side of Com Ga (Vietnamese chicken rice). 🍚

Not long after being served with lotus flower tea came the mini Com Ga. Half the size of a usual portion, the steamed chicken was juicy and succulent. 🍗

The rice, cooked with ginger and chicken stock was fragrant, and topped with coriander, chopped nuts & fried onion, giving it a nice little crunchiness. ⚡️

Just after polishing off this delightful starter came the main dish - perfect timing! 👌🏼

One plate contained fresh rice noodles together with vegetables such as carrots, radish & lettuce. In the bowl came the hot soup, along with chunks of grilled pork, beansprouts & coriander. 🌿

The noodles were smooth, shiny and chewy and tasty just by themselves. However, dipping them into the sweet & sour sauce gives them an incredible flavour and highly addictive! 😋

With friendly & relatively quick service (there are usually queues for lunch on weekends), and offering great tasting food at good value, Chopsticks is the place to go in Kichijoji when you are craving pho! 💯

I regularly see long lines at this restaurant so I thought it must be because of the good food … lo and behold it’s not. Operationally the staff do not look after their waiting customers. I was there 42 minutes just 3rd in line and inside tells me a story of already finished customers just using their phones with no other incoming orders. Outside the queue grows longer and so do the complaints behind me. Money is waiting people … why do you let customers sit inside for 30 minutes to use their phones? ...

My wife and I are regular customers and we wonder if we’d even be able to find pho this good in Vietnam! Our favorite is the beef tendon pho. Incredible flavor! I like to order some free chilis, lemon and sriracha on the side too. I also recommend a little bit of fish sauce and vinegar to add to the umami. Taste the broth first though, that is the way.
