It just wasn’t very good. The chicken was gamy, not from any spices but the quality of the meat. The lamb was astringent, on the verge of being rancid. The ceviche was the biggest letdown as everything was obviously frozen at some point (bizarre in a city that largely runs on fresh seafood) leaving the fish a quivering mess of sinew surrounded by sliced octopus hockey pucks. Their version of lomo saltado boggles the mind - at ¥2,000 a plate, you receive about three potatoes worth of soy sauce-soaked wedges and a few strips of beef jerky. It does seem that they are using loin, but it’s either being overcooked, allowed to age or marinate too long, or something else is happening along the way to make it a cloying, gray, unpleasant chew. The only things made well were the basics of fast food cooking - the potato wedges, the fried yuca, the beans, and the rice. Good job on that. Everything else was regrettable.
It’s a surprise to see this quality of food at this price point when there are alternatives like Bepocah just a few stations away - a Michelin bib gourmand (though deservedly a one star) that offers food which is not only more authentically Peruvian, but that is better in quality and taste in orders...
Read moreVery delicious! Visited Huanchaco in December 2015 with some friends. Personally I'm not very familiar with Peruvian food (except for Ceviche), so I asked the owner and chef Julio for his recommendations. We ordered Anticuchos (beef skewers and potatoes), Ceviche de Pescado (fish ceviche, peruvian style), and the Tacu Tacu (peruvian risotto with a seafood sauce). Everything was absolutely delicious, with very unique flavors. Julio took the time to explain each dish both in Spanish and Japanese (for my friends) and even sat down with us a while to enjoy some drinks. While we were dining, a group came in started practicing Salsa dancing; apparently they have Salsa lessons as well.
The place is tiny though, so it cannot seat that many guests (a reservation is a good idea). Price is on the expensive side, as expected for western food in Tokyo.
Overall a very good experience, with delicious food, above-and-beyond service, and good atmosphere. Definitely...
Read moreI normally don't leave reviews however I had an amazing experience here. I'm a fellow Peruvian and I love trying out my country's food from different countries take on our cuisine, and I have to say bravo to the chef, bartender and owner for making everything exceptional well. Now since everything is made to order prepare for a wait on the drinks and food, so as long as you don't have anything planned later, you will be fine. After finishing my meal the owner talks to me and my friend and ask me where I'm from. I told him I'm American but my family is from Peru, and the owner (Julio) himself is also Peruvian. He really treated me and my friend like family, and that is why I'm leaving this review. I highly recommend the salmon with mash potatoes and my friend had the goat stew with rice. If I come back, I'm definitely eating here again. Btw, also amazing Pisco sours ❤️ You made Peru...
