Tokusei Juhachiban ( special 18) 950 yen Half gyoza 300 yen Payment by cash only.
Hot, light soy sauce broth with garlic. The garlic is stir-fried with pork belly and green onion. The garlic is not pungent or harsh. This is mixed with hand-rubbed noodles and really tastes good. After finishing the noodles, I was surprised to see the amount of garlic in the bottom of the soup. It is indeed a one-of-a-kind ramen that I have never had at any other restaurant. To be honest, I feel like I could make ramen like that at home, but it's so good, I have nothing to complain about. On the other hand, the gyoza (dumplings) are full of vegetables and have a gentle taste. They go well with the ramen. The combination of the waitresses at the counter is also good. The service is also good, cheerful and polite. The only thing that is not so great is the narrow space between the seats. The restaurant itself is also small, so do not bring in carry-on cases or large bags or luggage, as they will be a nuisance to the restaurant. There are several single female customers, so it may be that this restaurant has a lot of fixed fans. If you like ramen, it doesn't matter what gender you are. Unlike the orthodox soy sauce ramen in Ogikubo, this ramen is full of originality and can only...
Read moreA ramen shop near Ogikubo Station. It's so popular that even after 9pm there's a line outside the shop. It's counter-only and cash only. The shop's signature dish, "Jyuuhachiban Ramen," has a unique soup. A large amount of garlic is placed deep in the soup, and the layer of lard that covers it keeps it piping hot and doesn't let the garlic flavor escape. Slurping up the noodles, which are well mixed with the garlic and sesame, gives you stamina. Be prepared to have bad breath from the large amount of garlic...

Soup: very simple old school shoyu with nice wok fried garlic flavor. Don't expect modern tasting super complex ramen, embrace simplicity
Noodles: went well with the soup! Nothing really remarkable otherwise
Toppings: old school toppings, thin slices of similar to å çžé·æµå±, but...
