Not impressed. We used to live near Tachikawa’s Sushiro. This Sushiro is the nearest to our new home in Suginami-ku. It is always a long wait and it took up to 3 weeks to book your ideal slot online since it is very popular. There is no doubt that it is popular because of their extensive menu, fresh ingredients and their efficient service system. This Sushiro in Ogikubo doesn’t have as many sushi options; 20% more expensive than other Sushiros (I have been to Tachikawa Sushiro and Rokakoen’s Sushiro); the Ogikubo Sushiro doesn’t even have Mayonnaise (while other Sushiros do!)?! These have given a slightly bad impression. Also, the sushiro rice was not tightly pressed. I saw some sushi’s falling apart on the conveyor belt. The other disappointment was that when we ordered a coffee jelly dessert. That looked nothing like what was shown on the poster. The ice-cream which was supposed to be on top on the cream was stingily and pathetically small and melted into the cream by the time it arrived. This Sushiro will have work hard to uphold their reputation.

For non-JP speakers, the check in process is the only difficulty you will have. If you are new to sushi I would say this is an interesting entry point. Zero pressure, easy tablet ordering, can try just about anything and know when what you just tried. For veteran sushi diners: the plus is its mega affordable, service is near instantaneous and everything past entry level is quite acceptable quality. Some of the odd novelty stuff was def worth trying as well. A tiny hamburger bridging to Nigiri worth of rice was a first for me. If you want to eat a lot and enjoy an atmosphere where your group can be a little bit less crowded constrained (not by much!). This may be just the ticket. Enjoy Japan and do your best to represent well.

Very noisy and strange smell after we got seated. taste was not that good. Even not of the recommended sushi. The pumpkin tempura was good in the first round, for second order it had mostly oily taste. In the end I found a hair in my sushi. Most of the servers weren't that friendly, but at least the cashier lady was very nice and the only positive thing in the shop in ogikubo. Of course we didn't expect too many from a franchise sushi store. But all in all my boyfriend and me both ended up with an upset stomach. 😥 (even if myself had only vegetarian sushi)
