Kooriya Peace is a spot that specializes in Shaved Ice, all year long. We went there to try their shaved ice in January. They have a menu with pictures right by the door, and you need to decide what to order before you enter. The menu changes frequently, with season and what ingredients are freshly available.
The inside is not so large, but understandable as they only offer shaved ice. They have a counter seating of around 10 or so seats. You can get some hot green tea from the self-service station. Eating a large cold shaved ice might need a little bit of warmth after a while.
They had eight different kinds on this day, and they all looked really good. It was not easy to choose, but I went with the Mont Blanc with Chestnut and Rum. It comes with a side of rum raisins. You might say it is pricy for a shaved ice, but it is huge, great quality, and look how pretty and artistic it is!
The ice was fluffy and airy, packed just enough to hold all the creamy drizzle toppings without being too hardened. It had some more chestnut cream in the middle as well, so you get the flavor and creaminess throughout. The drizzle had amazing flavor of the chestnut, sweet and nutty. I really enjoyed it.
Mu hubby went with a more of New Years special design, that looks like Kagami-Mochi that you see during the New Years. It was Kumquat Iriki and Lemon Verbena scented Sweet Sake. It had white creamy drizzle, with special Iriki kumquat and a few colorful gummies on top to make it extra festive. The white fan looking thing on the top was super crunchy and crispy, adding extra texture to it.
This one also had some filling in the middle. The creamy coating was almost like condensed milk with lemon and sweet sake flavor infused in it. The ice, once again, was fluffy and light, yet packed enough to hold the weight and keep its shape. Another awesome creation!
We had such fun dessert time here. The owner and the staffs were so welcoming and friendly. Their shaved ice creations are nothing like I’ve ever had. I love how you can get shaved ice any time...
Read moreKooriya Peace, the kakigori place that was visited by Kantarou in his show, #sweettoothsalaryman . Airy ness, that was the key to this dessert. The ice was brought to room temperature so that the shaved ice would just be on the brink of melting, thus, the moment the ice hits your body, it immediately melts turning into nothingness which is chock full of flavour. I personally hate ice desserts because it’s just syrup and ice, but this is the exact thing I hate done so amazingly right. The sauces tasted fresh and homemade and the dessert was actually refreshing! The ice was packed but not too tightly so it remained firm on the surface but actually oh so light! You have to use the softest touch in order to achieve such a texture and they did! For the salted caramel and strawberry kakigori, The cream was so light and fluffy, just like a milky cloud floating on TOP of the dessert. Also, I felt my thirst being quenched as I devoured the beautiful dessert, despite the fact that i pushes my beautiful dollap of cream onto the floor (screams), it was just so good I drank every last drop.
For the premium melon sherbet, it was a beautiful combination of fruit, jelly and melon sherbet. It all came together in perfect symphony with the ice being drenched in even more blended melon goodness. It was angelic, poetic, fantastic... you get the idea. A whopping 10/10 in my books, I will highly recommend anyone in Tokyo on holiday now to give it a try, it will spoil you for all ice desserts but it will be...
Read moreA well-known shaved ice shop in Kichijoji. If you're in the area and are looking for a good shaved ice shop. This is the place. It doesn't matter what you order; you'll enjoy it regardless.
The price is a little on the expensive end, ranging from 1100 yen to 3000 yen. Though this place doesn't disappoint you as it drenches shaved ice with the gloriously tasty sauce and hides some treats inside. I ordered the peach shaved ice and strawberry shaved ice.
The peach shaved ice was using pure-all natural peaches. The sauce was using nothing but a peach, which blew my mind. Because of this, the shaved ice preserved that peachy sweetness and freshness. If you are a peach lover, this is what you want to order.
The strawberry shaved ice...oh my. This was absolutely pure pleasure. Strawberry shaved ice isn't my most favorite flavor but this one may have changed how I see the flavor. I don't know what kind of strawberries they used but the sauce was so sweet. I could not put the spoon down or even take a break from eating it. It is probably the best strawberry shaved ice I have yet tried. I would choose this over the peach any day.
For every shaved ice lover, this is certainly a...
