Iâm writing to leave an honest review of my experience at Maid Dreamin cafĂ©. It was my groupâs first visit to Japan including myself, and one of the things that my traveling partner had really wanted to experience was a maid cafĂ©. I found Maid Dreamin through a Facebook group and YouTube recommendation and thought it was tourist and English speaking friendly. However, our experience was disappointing and didnât reflect the positive reviews on social media.
When our group of 3 first arrived, the maids were in the middle of a stage performance and we couldnât hear what the maids were saying over the loud blaring music. After telling them that we spoke English, they moved us to a side room where other small groups of tourists like us sat. It seemed that single or regular guests got to sit in the main room with the best view. Unfortunately, we were sat on the side where we could only see the sides and backs of the maids performing.
As we sat down, we were greeted enthusiastically by our maid who spoke basic English and was handed an ipad for ordering. However after ordering drinks, we never saw her again. The time limit at our table was 60 minutes. The entire time, we were completely ignored. It made us felt like we didnât belong. It wasnât even packed or busy that night. In addition to drinks, we ordered a camera photo package. After paying, they ignored us again. We observed that groups after us got their photos right after they paid the bill. The table next to us even got a group photo with all of the maids. I had to call one maid over and ask for a photo. After she double checked our bill, we requested for a group photo but she said âonly one maid.â
Overall, I appreciated their dance performance and hard work towards other customers, but I was ultimately disappointed by the lack of effort and lack of basic service towards us. This experience was most disappointing especially for our friend who had been looking forward to it for a long time. Iâm starting to believe that we probably would have been treated better if we had spoken fluent Japanese, spent an exorbitant amount of money on services, or came in as a single man. I hope that Maid Dreamin takes this review seriously into consideration and improve their services towards their guests, especially guests who have...
Read moreDONâT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME !!!! How this place got so many positive reviews is frankly beyond me. Lousy experience through and through. Mind you, I was already familiar with the concept & LIKED the idea of it, so this isnât some kind of judgemental review based on that.
Right from the start, trying to reserve a table for this place by a simple google search, they scam you into thinking you need to buy a certain âpackage dealâ in order to do so. Upon our arrival, the waitresses were struggling to understand what this package we ordered even was at first, and I later discovered you donât actually even need it to sit there, which was simply shady - let alone misleading. (Though I should mention that even without it you still need to pay a similar amount of money per person which comprises of an entrance fee & a relatively expensive menu). Never encountered such a phenomena before when reserving tables.
As for the package itself, it included a drink, photo, and live performance & was around 3500 yen per person. The drink we got was really underwhelming; there was nothing special about it. That is despite the fact their menus present drinks and foods which all look much more impressive and are all cutely decorated - a big disappointment to us since it was part of the reason we wanted to come in the first place.
The waitresses themselves were just okay? Wasnât particularly exciting or fun interacting with them, rather just felt forced and somewhat awkward.
To sum it all up, I didnât find the experience was worth the amount of money we paid. Seem to me like nothing short of an overrated tourist trap and if you want further proof of that just take notice of the amount of native Japanese people that have never even heard of...
Read moreMaid cafe's are weird, but definitely something that should be experienced at least once. I'd been to a couple before, but my wife hadn't, so it was her turn on deck, and she picked this one out from the many, MANY options available to her, being advertised all throughout Akihabara.
There's a „500 cover charge to enter, plus a rate per hour to remain inside, plus required drink or food purchases per person, which come with an allowance of one picture with a maid (you can purchase more, if you like), plus various packages that come with additional levels of interaction with the maid(s) of your choice, including the option to pay for a performance (usually the maid dancing and singing karaoke on a small stage), so things can get spendy pretty quick.
Most of the maids are friendly (at least up front), but if you watch carefully, once they're out of line of sight (or believe themselves to be), you can tell that some of them are annoyed, and would rather be elsewhere, surround by normal people, instead of drooling, lascivious nerds and curious gaijin.
The food is basic, but decent; the desserts are good; the alcoholic drinks are pretty weak for the price; you're paying for the entertainment, so depending on how much you enjoy watching early-20s girls prance about, calling you "master" or "princess" in a high-pitched voice, and responding to cries of "meow meow!" whenever you want to summon them to your table, your mileage may vary on the value provided. Still, once in a blue moon, a little silliness like this is worth...
