this was the greatest disappointment of my annual trip to Tokyo - that will teach me to not give any credit to influencers that get compensated with complementary drinks and ad revenue from YouTube. Why, was it so bad? well to start with, the place was not very clean... more like a bar with stains on everything that you would not see in the dark. then the premium grade $12 matcha lattes, which I stated was for "here" and that was clearly understood as the pastries were on ceramic plates and warmed, were in plastic cups when there was a rack of glasses right in front of me and the person behind the counter was even drinking a latte from one of the glasses.. as well as the menu on display showed the drinks in glass glasses.. I had to ask for mine to be poured into the glass, but though the latte was good, the micro-plastic damage was done... what a waste and why would you go to such pretense as to be a premium matcha cafe and authority on it and then serve the drink to your dining in customers in plastic cups like one would receive in a fast food restaurant... I was embarrassed as I had brought someone who was really into matcha tea, I prefer cappuccinos myself, and they were so disappointed as well with the presentation of the drink and said it was terrible matcha, though they were likely biased by the fast food feel at that price point.
updated: I originally gave this one star for the overall lacking experience and presentation, but since hearing back from the owner and seeing what the new location looks like, I changed that to a neutral 3 because I have not been to the...
Read moreone of my favourite matcha places in tokyo! I stumbled across their matcha back in july while they were still a pop up store, and I’ve been absolutely in love.
I came originally for the strawberry matcha latte and was not disappointed. Their homemade strawberry sauce was not too sweet and tasted like real strawberries. It was paired with their Reiyo matcha which has more earthy and grassy notes so it matched perfectly with the sweetness of the strawberry. The second time I got their regular tanuki matcha latte which they whisk in the milk so it made for an amazingly creamy matcha latte. This time I tried their houjicha strawberry latte and it was so surprisingly good! I’m a huge fan of houjicha so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out their houjicha was so chocolatey! It wasn’t earthy or bitter but really tasted like a cold hot chocolate!
Their new cafe is also super cute and cozy with dark red interiors that matches the cafe by day and bar by night concept. (They make matcha cocktails and drinks for the bar!)
Great place to hang out with friends, chat, and meet...

Matcha Passport is such a delightful little cafe, easy to find, just a short walk from the Shimokitazawa Station, making it a perfect stop when you’re wandering through the city.
The building it’s in is already a treat on its own, cute & stylish, and filled with other charming little shops that invite you to explore. Matcha Passport located on the second floor.
I ordered their signature matcha latte, Creamy yet fresh, with a gentle umami flavor that mixed tastefully. It’s the kind of drink that makes you pause and enjoy the moment.
The space is adorably designed, cozy enough to enjoy solo time, yet open and comfortable for sitting with friends. It feels like a mini escape from the Tokyo buzz.
Highly recommend stopping by if you’re a fan of matcha or just want a peaceful, pretty spot...
