Real Mexican food! We were looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant to have lunch today and this was the right choice.
Everything was awesome, honestly, I am quite picky when it comes to food but this place is true to the Mexican cuisine. The mole, tacos de chicharron, chilaquiles and flan had such a nostalgic flavor... Homemade mole, salsas and more, NO crispy tacos nor tex-mex.
I have to admire the owner's original recipes, the corn sauce chilaquiles were really good, of course I didn't ask for the recipe but I will try to make it at home.
The cactus ice cream/sorbet was... how can I describe it? The best way to finish our lunch. The thing was a mystery, it has cactus but it is still sweet, it has nuts, pomegranate and I don't know what else. It comes with a slice of lime that, if you squeeze into it, the flavor totally changes. Its fresh, colorful, sweet and sour and soft and somehow crunchy. It shouts México! It made us really happy.
Last but not least the decoration. We call that pink "Mexican pink", vibrant and strong, toys and other Mexican trinkets around that go with the environment. Not only those colorful tiles that we all know.
We will come back for sure. Thanks to the owner to stay true to the...
Read moreMy husband and I had a wonderful experience on 27/09/19. From food to service, everything was on point. The food was authentic - my husband would know because he is a fan of Mexican food and had the cuisine in Mexico. The team (owner included) was friendly and genuine. Mario’s understanding on gluten free diet and the preparation gave us the assurance that we could bring our friend who is celiac and will be visiting us in November. He did say that we need to call ahead so he can prepare the kitchen. This is what we call excellent service!
While I normally do not have the need to correct people, in this case, I have the strong urge to. MiFamilia is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant, and it does serve authentic and good Mexican food.
Tex-Mex cuisine uses flour tortilla or hard corn shell and the typical condiments are shredded yellow cheese and sour cream. Whereas, in Mexican cuisine, soft corn tortilla, white cheese and creme are used. Both are delicious...
Read moreWe had a cozy lunch at the small counter on the first floor where they cook the food in front of you, you have a choice of beef, chicken or pork dishes. We came back the next week for dinner and margaritas, having booked a table for four. This is small shop and upstairs they have tables for about 20 people. You can tell that the attentive staff have teamed together for a long time as they work so smoothly together, and in fact they used to run a restaurant in Roppongi before they moved it here. I think this explains why it is popular at lunch and dinner even though it is on the quiet side of the street that gets little...
