Delicious Cosy Tasty Spot!
Oh my gosh, where do I even start with Niigata Katsudon in Nakano? This place is an absolute gem. Tucked away in the lantern-lit, vibey streets of Nakano, this cozy little katsu joint feels like a warm hug from the moment you walk in. The chef greeted us with the kindest smile, like we were old friends, and that set the tone for the whole meal. We ordered a prawn katsu set (two perfectly crispy prawns, because why not go big?), one pork fillet katsu, and a classic pork katsu. Let me tell you, every single bite was pure comfort. The katsu had this bready, golden crust that crunched just right, and the meat—oh, the meat—was so juicy and tender it practically melted in your mouth. The rice? Absolute perfection, as always, fluffy and just the right stickiness. And don’t sleep on the miso soup—it’s light, soothing, and the kind of thing that makes you feel at home. Oh, and the little pickles on the side? So crisp, so tangy, just the perfect zing to round out the meal. The vibe in there is something else. It’s intimate, calm, and peaceful, like you’re dining in someone’s beautifully curated home. The stained glass windows—gorgeous pops of color—catch the light in this magical way, and it just adds to the whole experience. The staff were beyond kind, patiently explaining the menu and making us feel so welcome. And can we talk about the mugi-cha they served us when we sat down? So refreshing, so nutty, so tasty. I could drink that stuff all day. Nakano itself was a revelation. It was my first time wandering those streets, and I was obsessed—lanterns glowing everywhere, quirky little shops, and this super authentic Japanese vibe that just pulls you in. It’s the kind of place you want to get lost in. Honestly, this meal was a five-star experience through and through. From the food to the atmosphere to the warmth of the staff, Niigata Katsudon nailed it. If you’re in Nakano, you have to stop by. I’m already dreaming about...

Read moreThis restaurant took me by surprise. I am a family man with a stroller and a baby. Since this was on the second floor and very narrow staircase, we almost decided not to go. Once up, we were greeted by a very kind employee who helped us put the stroller away.
If you are ever in the mood for katsu, then this is your place. The price is not too expensive as you can buy almost everything on the menu for about 1000 yen. There are a few items which are a little more. However, the taste is one of the best that I have tasted.
It was so good that I had to get their ”take out” only burger which was about 600 yen. Once at home, I also ate that. Good overall experience.
Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves katsu. The only thing though, it is a little cramped inside the restaurant. Wouldn't recommend...
