Located in the lobby of an office building in Nihonbashi and modeled after the original Sacrée Fleur in Paris, this restaurant's decor is warm and clean, with red-cushioned wooden furniture that evokes a French bistro. The space includes counter and table seating around the kitchen, as well as small private dining areas. Floor-to-ceiling windows are lined with paintings in the style of Warhol's Campbell Soups for some privacy. The staff were attentive, kind, and efficient. I stopped by at 2 pm and was seated immediately.
I ordered the 150g steak with frites, a baguette, salad, and a lightly sweet apple sauce for JPY 1800. The meal was served on a wooden cutting board. The steak came medium-rare (brown with a pink center) and was lightly seasoned, allowing customers to adjust the salt and pepper as they wished. The 300g option is also available for JPY 3000 and comes with a small hot plate to further grill the steak.
For an additional JPY 500, I also added the tartare du jour (mushroom), which was as expected: chilled, lightly creamy, and with balanced flavors. It was served with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette and homemade burdock root crackers.
Lunch also included a drink; I chose the house lemonade, which was served completely dry (no additional sugar). It was a wonderful, refreshing addition and a very classy touch to an excellent meal.
The wine list is well-curated and reasonably priced, with a mix of French and Australian wines. Most bottles are priced around JPY 5000, likely to cater to the neighborhood's office workers. There are also JPY 11,000 Champagnes, likely reserved for celebrations. The menu also offers a two-page selection of mixed drinks, including highballs, sours, sangria, mimosas, beer, and non-alcoholic options.
Overall, with its excellent pricing and service, Sacrée Fleur lives up to the bistro standard and is a lovely addition to the...
Read moreGreat food blighted by poor service
Here a great example of how lack of cultural knowledge and resulting poor service can totally wreck an otherwise fantastic food experience.
My wife and I ordered the steack menu, but before that main meal, I wanted to try their pate, which looked very appetizing. The waiter brought a very generous portion, served with gerkins, some vegetables and 2 sorry-looking slices of dried baguette. Because in France a pate is generally appreciated with a thick "pain de campagne", I asked if I could get a serving of baguette, real bread not "crackers" . The waiter brought 2 portions of frozen and re-heated baguette. I told him that it was not what I expected and was disappointed, to which he apologized but did not offer solution.
Barely halfway through this otherwise delicious pate, the waiter brought the steaks. I was about to say something but my wife stopped me. Thus, I had to eat the main dish before the remaining of my starter. Rather upset, i did not order any wine, cheese or dessert, just wanting to get out of that place.
Serving "baguette" in a french restaurant strikes me as a lack of inspiration, when there are so many better breads.... But serving frozen "baguette" is not just lazyness, it is heresy! Then having the waiter sneer at you because you are asking real bread is insulting and demonstrates a clear lack of french culture, as was again showen when the steak was brought at almost the same time as the starter!
During those challenging Covid times, restaurants should do more, not less...A basic knowledge of culinary/service culture goes a...
Read moreCame for Sunday lunch, arrived at 12:30 and place was almost full - booked on ikkyu which had a special sale for 2500 yen which included 4 dishes; chicken and olive tartare, salmon salad, sirloin steak 150 grams per person with bread or rice and dessert. Honestly all dishes were very small - every client around us asked the same question "is this for everyone to share?" when the dish came out. Each dishes was good just small, the meat had so much fat that we had only a tiny bit of meat each and the rice my wife ordered was horrible - was definitely left over from yesterday or microwave rice... You can see the picture. So for 10,000 yen for 4, I would say to me it didn't feel good value at all. Would recommend elsewhere if your hungry. You can do very decent churrasco all you can eat for 3000 but at least your not hungry when you...
