We were running around Shibuya, struggling to find vegetarian-friendly dinner options at 9.30 pm at night. We looked up HC & found Shimbu Sakiya ramen. Though we initially struggled to find it - we let out a huge sigh of relief when we finally did. Ordering was all on a screen outside the restaurant - there is was 1 vegan ramen option & 1 vegetarian ramen option. I selected the vegetarian ramen option & vegetarian gyoza. Drink options were limited and not too exciting, especially if you don't want to drink alcohol. Once ordered though, the difficulty was getting the machine to accept our credit cards - after 4 repeated attempts to pay & having to restart the order, we paid in cash. So good idea to keep sufficient cash on you.
Once ordered, ramen came out within 10 minutes of ordering - perfect for the hungry vegetarian after meal-hunting. The Ramen was lovely to look at and even better to eat. For those who are partial to smokey flavours, you will be smitten by this ramen -- it was smokey, umami deliciousness. The vege dumplings were beautifully pan-fried on the outside but the filling was packed too tight for my liking.
The restaurant had some thoughtful touches - the table had packets with hair ties to keep nasty hairs from floating into your soup, a water filling station & good condiments to add to the ramen.
All in all a great late-night find for a...
Read moreI ordered the gluten-free spicy miso ramen with extra gluten-free fried chicken. The gf karaage was the best I’ve ever had! It was super crispy, the seasoning was amazing, and the chicken was so juicy. It’s been really difficult to find karaage I can eat as a celiac, and to top it off it was really good too. The ramen came with chashu (pork belly), wood ear mushrooms, corn, green onion, and bean sprouts on top. I really appreciated that it came with the usual ramen toppings, since most gf ramen restaurants I’ve been to before serve with steamed chicken and mustard greens. The soup was great, with just the right amount of spice. I would 100% recommend this for gluten-free ramen. I’m already planning to go back!
Unlike other ramen shops, this store offers several types of gluten-free ramen soup bases. It also offers gluten-free karaage, vegan, and vegetarian options. You buy your meal tickets at a machine outside the restaurant (it can do several languages). The ticket machine takes cash, credit, IC card, and some forms of electronic payment. Inside, paper bibs are provided and hair elastics are available on request. There is a jug of free water if you don’t want to buy a...
Read moreRamen here was pretty dang delish. we even drank up the broth. P.s. if you like ginger apparently you can ask for more before they serve (google translated one of the stickers on the booth after)
My bf and I both ordered the gluten free double meat grilled miso and shio ramen. the brown rice noodles had a nice chewiness to it that I didn’t expect at all! Fried chicken soooo gooddd reminded me of the Taiwanese chicken crispiness. The pork , oufff soo good when you let it sit in the soup for a min or so to let the fat melt a bit before eating. drooling!!! I LOVED that the soup was piping hot, nice smokiness to it. Great place if you’re looking for vegan or gluten free ramen (if you’re willing to risk the cross contamination)
The only down side was, my bf did get a Slight reaction likely due to cross contamination. Now we didn’t mention it to the server and just ordered Gluten free from the kiosk and handed in our tickets. I think we could have also been more proactive on our part to mention that he has celiacs to see if they could put...
