I know what you’re thinking. You’re hungry. Every other place in this building has a line up. You don’t want to wait. Since you’re at Toyosu Market, where some of the best fish in the world is auctioned off, how bad could a sushi place be?

The answer is: bad. Very bad. We ordered an omakase set, consisting of 10 pieces of nigiri, 6 pieces of tuna maki, and a miso soup. The 10 nigiri pieces ranged from average to bad, depending on the bite. An overall low quality of fish was prevalent throughout all 10 pieces, and the rice did nothing to salvage any of them. Given the price (around $50 CAD per person), this was very disappointing.

What stuck with me was the tuna maki, which was the worst I've ever had. It was inedible – you couldn’t even chew through the tuna; it was that bad! For a place located at Toyosu Market, one wouldn’t have expected the quality of the tuna to be this low.

This was the first sushi meal we had on our trip to Japan. Fortunately, we had some amazing sushi after eating here, but I’ll always look back on this meal with disappointment. Don’t make the same mistake we did – find a place with a line up, or get out of Toyosu and eat...

Disappointing Experience

I recently visited this sushi restaurant, and I must say that I understand why they have fewer customers compared to other places. First of all, let's talk about the presentation. Instead of using proper plates, they serve sushi on bamboo leaves, and sometimes they even place the sushi directly on the counter. The level of hygiene is quite alarming.

Moreover, the order in which the sushi is served makes no sense at all. When I tried the white fish, it felt like I was chewing on rubber. There was no opportunity to savor the fish's flavor since it was so poorly prepared. I couldn't even bear the "aroma" of the fish after a serious attempt to taste it, and I ended up discreetly spitting it out into a napkin. Without looking back, I promptly paid the bill and left.

Overall, I was extremely disappointed with my dining experience at this sushi restaurant. I would not recommend it to anyone who values cleanliness, taste, and a pleasant...

This is the worst sushi I have ever had. Pieces of fish were huge, haphazardly and unevenly cut, tough texture, smelled bad, and tasted disgusting. I was only able to stomach about 1/2 of the pieces but was gagging to get through them.

Food was soaking wet, sometimes dripping with liquid.

Sushi from 7-11 or any convenience store in Japan and sushi from a grocery store in America tastes much better than this and is better quality. I am not an expert sushi maker myself but the nigiri I make at home is better than this.

The chef and the assistant who was making most of the food seemed untrained.

I have been to other sushi’s restaurants in Toyosu market that were fabulous so this was really a disappoint, especially given it’s high price.

If you are considering eating here, turn around and go to...

Service is TERRIBLE. Worst attitude encountered in my whole trip, and I'm shocked to have been able find such abysmal level of service in Japan. DO NOT GO. You'd be paying money to get abused. Even upon simply entering the store, we were immediately glared at. I must say that the female chef that was especially rude, and constantly glared at us even throughout the meal. I might have misunderstood her, but from my very limited Japanese it seemed like she was chatting with another Japanese customer about tourists being "stingy". And honestly, the food was really average at best. It's no surprise that there was zero queue at the shop, even though most other stores had snaking queues. Please do not eat here, even if you're starving. You'd be happier skipping a meal.

This spot has pretty good sushi, the food itself is just like all other Tsukiji spots: GOOD. However, the downside is this is the best spot to know how "traditional Tokyo-nese" are. They call themselves "Edo People", and the most iconic characteristic is they are "clumsy but genuine, impatient but energetic" Over here you can clearly feel the staffs are really fast on getting the food out, and getting the tab done. No picture is allowed inside the store, just like many other Japanese spots, but they will push out all sushi in front of you and hope you'll finish it asap so they can get ready for the next customer. It is not rude by any means, but it is far from having relax and enjoyable dine time.
