Sushiro Ikebukuro East — Restaurant in Tokyo

I think it's closer to a 3-star however, it felt mean. Came here in March 2024.

Pros: You can easily book ahead on Line (link on google map). For foreigners, you gotta figure how to translate into English. I use app that translate screenshot by scnreeshot, bit painful but you get the hang of it. This is a busy station, and it's japan. Always BOOK Ahead!!! It's all self served, from booking till sitting, till ordering. At paying, there's a human. Throughout, you can still request help. The sushi is decent, but it's not good good. Would really be closer to a 2 or 3 stars, but given that it's known as "cheap sushi", then it kinda make sense. From a Canadian perspective, the quality here is equivalent to the worst chinese-owned sushi restaurants. But as a tourist, you still can appreciate the convenient and fun aspect/vibe of the restaurant. This is supposed to be cheap. But it really wasn't. It's around $85 CAD in total for 1 adult + 2 kids. I have much better choices and quality with an AYCE in Toronto. And we weren't full. Again, enjoy the fun vibe of your travel, I still came here twice in my stay of 11 days in March 2024.

Cons: I think I mentioned a lot of cons in my Pros. Not cheap, and quality is closer to poor than above average, from my Canadian standards. Choices are lacking. Lots of the fish pieces were thin and a bit dry. Compared to Kura, Kura has the Game part, which is main reason why my kids prefer going to the competitor after discovering it. It's a bit of a let-down when there is so much hype for "Japan's sushi", though I understand this is supposed to be cheap sushi..which...

It's more like 3.5 star. The food is to be expected for sushi train. Definitely more selection of fish compared to Australia.

Due to the recent sushi train incident, now all the food in sushi train are more like delivering system rather than circulating the food on the train. I don't mind it either way.

My problem was the ticketing system and the language barrier which has caused the inconvenience.

The ticket system for queuing is unmanned. The numbers are being called in Japanese, if we don't face the screen or pay attention, we can lose our spot. That almost happened to us. I saw the waiter walked pass and showed him my ticket, as we saw our number was being called but we didn't respond in time. all he said was it was not my turn yet so just go back to wait.

Luckily I used a translator on the ticket and found out that if our number was being called and we don't respond in time, we'll lose our spot if we don't renew it in 30min.

Make sure to pay attention...

My group and I went here on vacation, and this was one of the best sushi places I ate at in Japan! If this wasn't the best sushi, it was definitely the best experience, and they had the most varieties. They had a very cheap price that would have been a cheap price for a group of four. Our whole check was only $150 for almost eight people, and we did not go light. We ordered a plate over 17 times, and it was amazing each time. One of my favorite pieces was prosciutto with mozzarella over rice. It sounded weird, but it was definitely one of the best I had all night. This was definitely the best way to spend our last night in Japan, with some of the best sushi and the best sushi experience...
