Japanese pork is my favorite because of the taste, the texture and the right amount of fat to lean ratio. Finding a good Tonkatsu joint in the Tokyo area is actually not very difficult especially in the Ginza, Shibuya and Kagurazaka area. Aoki is a chain in Tokyo, I think there are 12 different locations. I didn't expect to find it in Haneda.
It is not just another Tonkatsu joint, my rib eye roast pork cutlet was unbelievable. Because it's so thick, it is slow roasted first so it is not over cooked during the deep frying. These people got this process down. It is the most tender piece of pork that I have ever had in my life, some part of the pork was a little too fatty for me but overall it is crazy good. If your are laying over in Haneda and in the mood for a perfect piece of pork cutlet, there is no better choice. I also love the soup, pork with radish, it is not your run off the mill miso.
It is a small place, 12 seats and you purchase your meal ticket at the machine. Depending on the cut you choose, it could take a little time to prepare...
Because the restaurant is located in "Haneda Innovation City", it's very popular on weekdays, especially during lunch hours, when there is a long line of people waiting to get in. On the other hand, on weekends and holidays, there are almost no lines and you can enter the restaurant quickly. It's one of several pork cutlet restaurants in Tokyo, but it is the only one with "open terrace seating" that takes advantage of the building's structure. The open terrace seating is at tables, but the restaurant's interior seating is almost exclusively at the counter, so it appears that many of the customers are single people. Therefore, even if the restaurant is crowded to the point that there is a line during lunch time, it does not mean that the customer turnover is bad. You need to purchase a meal ticket in advance from the ticket vending machine located at the entrance. It seemed to take a little time from ordering to serving, even when the restaurant was empty, but of course the pork cutlet, which is the main dish, was carefully prepared to compensate for this. I thought the pork cutlet was very chewy and rich in juices. On the other hand, as is the case at other "Tonkatsu Aoki" restaurants, the slices were uneven in width, and the meat tended to get cold and tough over time. As for the cabbage, rice, and miso soup, there were no items worth mentioning, and I have the impression that they were neither acceptable nor...
Read moreDefinitely some of the best tonkatsu I've had, if not the best. I showed up at 12:30pm on a weekday and got lucky with no wait to order and sit down. The meal is cooked to order so I had to wait a while, maybe 20 to 25 minutes. The food was really delicious - I'm not a big fan of pork but this was great. I liked that there were lots of custom salts and...
