[JUNE 2020] I drove to the restaurant, but there doesn't seem to be any hourly parking nearby. I parked at a meter a little ways away.
The shop is located in the basement of a building, but the large windows let in sunlight, so it didn't feel claustrophobic. The atmosphere inside the bar was like a coffee shop, and standard jazz music was playing at a low volume.
The weekday lunch-only Pork Loin Cutlet set meal was ¥1,000. They didn’t serve katsudon. The premium Simmered Cutlet set meal (¥1,800) might resemble katsudon, but it's an evening-only menu item. Since I'd come all this way, I ordered the most expensive Premium Loin Cutlet set meal (¥2,000). They said they use Hayashi SPF pork. So my excitement level shot even higher.
What a huge volume! Both the size and thickness were substantial. First, I tried the part in the middle with the Alpensalz rock salt that was on the table...
Juicy! The meat juices burst in your mouth! Flood warning issued! Above all, the satisfying texture when biting through the meat was delightful. The moderate elasticity was irresistible.
Perhaps because of the lard, the batter had a sweetness similar to that of curry bread. If it was freshly fried, you could probably eat the batter alone with rice.
I've tried other salts but haven't noticed a big difference. I'll stop eating it with salt and instead eat it with sauce. It really hit the spot. The sauce seemed to have less sweetness. But since I didn't taste the sweetness in the batter when eating it with salt, maybe the salt itself had a subtle sweetness.
After trying two slices with sauce, I revisited the Alpensalz rock salt that made the strongest impression. It looks like ordinary flavored salt, but it really lets the dish's flavor shine through. The only downside was that there was less rice compared...

True enough, the reviews who said the service is bad is accurate, especially for non-Japanese. We went to eat dinner here and the waiter kept staring at us and when we ordered, he pulled the menu from our hands (we weren't done ordering.) English menu has 4 items but you can't choose anything other than Tonkatsu, the waiter will just shake his head and point at the Tonkatsu. The waiter also kept watching tv.
30 minutes after eating here, all 5 of us HAD TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. Been in Japan for 5 days and this is the first time this happened.
Mighr as well place a very large sign at the door and say "No Foreigners Allowed" to save us both the time.
True customer service does not discriminate, take note, we even look like Japanese so I wonder how they...
