Very disrespectful customer service. The staffs even seem to be looking down on foreigners. Me and my mother, who came to Japan to join my graduation at Waseda University, were there on September 15, around 2pm. We order two drinks and at there for about an hour before we decided to leave. The rain at that point become much heavier and we realised this even before we walked out of the cafe, so we came back to wait until the rain lightened. I actually wanted to order another hot drink since it was a bit cold inside but as there was a line at the cashier, I decided to wait a bit and talked to my mom at the table. We were there for about 10 mins before a staff, with a very rude attitude, came to us telling us that it is the rule for each customer to order 1 drink inside the cafe. We replied that we already bought drinks before, and we just sat here a bit because of the heavy rain, but the staff just looked back with disrespect and left to the kitchen. We came to the cashier to explain as we already felt the disrespect from the other staff, attempting to explain our situation and ask for understanding, but the cashier again displayed the same disrespected and even laughed (?!) when hearing our situation. At this point they seemed to even show a sense of looking down on us, once again restating the rule with a rude attitude. We have no problem with the rule, and had the staffs been more positive, we would not mind buying more drinks while waiting. But rules are to show respect, not to be used as a means for disrespect. We at this point decided to voice our opinion of their bad behavior to them and after a while the cashier was like "ok ok you can sit". No sorry, no please, no onegaishimasu. Then that girl left to the kitchen to despite my mom calling her to question her attitude. My mom is here as a parent of a student in Japan, and i was eager to show her the hospitality of Japanese people. But this happened on her first day at Japan, even within the school parameter. Is this how this cafe thinks they can treat people, especially people from foreign countries? Absolute...
Read moreLocation seemed fine with nice outdoor seating and view of the garden area. Service was OK but when it was my turn to be called upon by the cashier she just stood there staring out into space. Everything else seemed fine after she took my order. I got the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel and it was super sad. There was lettuce, which isn't supposed to be in a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel sandwich. There were two tiny pieces of bad salmon. It wasn't smoked and had no flavor. Also the cream cheese was just a spoonful plopped onto the bagel instead of even spread around. The outside of the bagel was oily too, like they handled it after touching the oily salmon. It's an OK spot, I suppose, for students looking for cheap crap to eat quickly but for a passerby looking to eat lunch this was so disappointing. You're better off walking a bit further to the main street to eat at any of the other...
Read moreA cafe and gift shop at Waseda university, just next to the Okuma garden. There are seats outside with parasols for shade, as well as interior seating. Also within is a small university gift shop, stocking the usual small branded gifts and souvenirs one finds in such places. The coffee was not overly expensive, and there was a wide variety of tea and coffee on offer, all of which seemed available 'to go'. Cappuccino was served with a large cinnamon stick. Small and large cakes were also on sale. Sitting outside was very pleasant. The toilet was clean and well maintained. The quality of service seems to very much depend on the day and person at the till - on one of the two occasions I have been here the person at the cash register was a little curt. Overall however this is a nice place to relax and...
