Our attention was caught by a sign outside showing a pizza — and since we love Neapolitan-style pizza, we decided to stop in. The restaurant has a simple but cozy atmosphere, and even shortly after opening, it quickly filled up, which already said a lot about its quality.
FOOD:
We came during lunch, when only the set menu is available. It includes one main dish per person (pizza or pasta), plus a salad and a drink. We ordered the four cheese pizza and the pasta of the day, which happened to be a mushroom carbonara.
The meal started with a fresh salad dressed with a bright, slightly mustardy vinaigrette — refreshing and well-balanced. Then came the pizza, baked in a professional pizza oven. The dough was perfect — light, airy, with a crisp edge and no yeasty aftertaste. The topping was generous, and the cheeses were high quality. The blue cheese flavor was distinct and well-balanced, which is quite rare. What surprised us was that they serve honey in a small pot on the side, so you can add as much as you like — and it paired beautifully with the four cheese pizza.
The pasta was cooked al dente, with a smooth, lightly creamy sauce. It could have used a bit more salt and seasoning — the carbonara flavor was subtle — but it was still enjoyable overall.
SERVICE:
Service was fast and professional. Our waitress spoke a little English and was kind and attentive. This doesn’t seem like a tourist-oriented place — it feels more like a local favorite, possibly popular with students.
VERDICT:
We loved the pizza — it was truly excellent. It’s a shame that at lunchtime they only offer limited options and the fixed set menu, because we would gladly come back just for the pizza. Delicious, affordable, and clearly well-loved by locals — a great casual spot for an authentic Neapolitan-style...
Read moreExcellent restaurant, super-relaxing. Only minutes from the campus main entrance, so expect a light collegiate atmosphere. Staff are supercool and attentive. They allow dogs inside the restaurant, so beware if you’re not a dog fan. I loved it.
I had lemon-cream pasta (¥1300) with homemade sausage with asparagus - very good. Also ate pizza (¥1300) - white cheese with scallions and spicy-minced pork. Also satisfying. Finished off with homemade lemoncello shots at ¥500 each. All in all reasonable for dinner. Asahi amber and Gold and Regular beer for 500¥ each also (a good deal!).
Definitely coming back...
Read moreSuperb food. Service was prompt, friendly, and unobtrusive. Comfortable seating, good lighting, and a laid-back atmosphere. This is a really good neighbourhood restaurant, with mostly regulars, families, students, and the odd foreigner (me).
This place was about a 10 minute walk from my hotel. The neighbourhood felt like a small town even though it was in the heart of Bunkyo, with lots of people walking about, and relatively quiet with a minimum of...
